It's even more funny when you take into account there's 100m+ PS4 consoles as well as PC

MS has 10m+ subs on 50m consoles + PC :tom:

Meanwhile GeForce Now flopped. :rofls:

InXile just said they are making an AAA game after WL3 using ue5

I thought Wasteland 3 was on UE4 but its actually a Unity game. I can see a lot more studios switching to UE because of all the additions in 5.

Bit silly to compare considering how polar opposite MS and Sony's strategy is regarding their 'Passes'. MS' literal sole focus now is GP, they've reshaped their entire model around it, offered it for $1 for months and months, gave it 100% of it's first party day 1, etc. Meanwhile for Sony it's been like a VIta lol PS Now isn't even available in many many countries (still not even available here in Aus) and has never had cheap promotions. The biggest one was the price cut to $10 a month and it's caused a 100% increase. Sony has priortised and pushed PS Plus all gen, hence their insane PS Plus numbers (and the revenue it generates). Not to mention that it's 2.2m subs on Now without sacrificing day 1 first party exclusives, so they are getting those sub numbers while also selling 10m+ Copies of their major first parties.

Absolutely.  You're right.  But PS Now has been a thing for a much longer period of time... and IMO Sony really hasn't done anything with it.

But what you're basically saying is that Sony is going to have to copy MS and open PS Now up to those things to get any relevant amount of subscribers.

The other thing is that Sony will be partnering with MS for their cloud computing stuff in the future using Azure, so MS' going to be making money off of Sony.

Yeah, they haven't done anything with it and it is still suffering from the bad first impressions when it launched. So many ppl, even gamers who visit forums and shit like us still don't know it has downloadable games like GP. You see that comment on Era and hear it on gaming podcasts all the time. PS Now needs a rebrand and if it's gonna happen then you do it with the launch of a new system, call it Playstation Pass. Sony won't give it day 1 first major first party titles though, there's no way, they sell way too much. In the end it's about profitability and I think they have finally realised how to span out without losing any of their exclusive power. Put older exclusives on PC and PS Now once they have extracted all that value out of them. Everyone who was gonna buy a PS4 for Horizon or Bloodborne or even for God of War has already done so. Now use these games to promote their sequels (which will be PS5 exclusive) while also extracting more value out of them. They are never going to fully do what MS is doing (day 1 exclusives and multi plat day 1 with PC) because the Sony way is still vastly more profitable for the time being.

Yeah, tbh while there is a rivalry between Sony and MS, when it comes to the cloud gaming war and the possible avenues that the gaming industry can go into the future, they would very much rather align together and ward off Amazon and Google. Better the enemy you know lol, there was no way Sony was going to want to make Amazon or Google a player in this sphere.

And whoever is leasing data center space and leasing lines to Microsoft will be making money off of Microsoft. Money part doesn't matter.

The problem is PlayStation Now's service has changed a few times now and got off to a bad start because of this. At first it was a rental service, no subscription... it was something stupid like $7 for 8 hours or someshit. This lasted for at least a year or two, and then they finally changed it to subscription based with streaming only at a ridiculous cost that was too much, and it never caught on, but there must have been enough users to continue the service. Sony simply brought over their existing PlayStation Plus model later on, which Microsoft copied and made into a subscription service (Game Pass) with more games after implementing it into Xbox Live (Games with Gold).

All of these ideas and how to model these subscription services were piecemealed together based on existing services... mainly PlayStation Plus (since PS3 era).

I wonder if Microsoft and Sony are forging some legit partnership beyond just Sony renting datacenter space, maybe they're going to be launching a combined streaming service or something.

The partnership extends to Sony's AI, imaging and sensing as well. I doubt they'll combine services.
