"Chernobyl" Director Johan Renck Will Direct The Pilot For HBO's Adaptation of "The Last of Us"

HBO’s TV adaptation of popular video game The Last of Us has found itself a prominent director. At least, for the pilot.

Emmy-award winning director, Johan Renck, has confirmed he will directing the pilot episode of the series. As well as this, he will be serving as an executive producer. Renck is known primarily for his work on the hugely successful and critically acclaimed miniseries, Chernobyl.

 

Whilst speaking with ‘Discussing Film’, Renck explained he would be directing ‘at least the pilot’. He has not ruled out directing future episodes.

So after so many years of "this video game is being optioned for a movie" that leads to nowhere, it seems like this show is going to be the first "cinematic game" to actually get made into a live-action TV or movie.

 

(Ubisoft's Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed movies don't count).

If AMC could get one of the longest running shows in TV history out of the TWD, HBO should be able to get 5 seasons of watchable content out of TLOU

Also directed a few episodes of Breaking Bad.

The pedigree forming together for this is dream material. If this isn't good then no game adaption ever will be.
