jehurey 3,299
Really goes to show that game design got dumber, if Metroid Prime's "first person adventure" mechanics still hold up and impress people 20 years--TWENTY FUCKING YEARS--after it originally released. All of these shitty first-person narrative-based "walking simulators" exist because the developers can't actually do any interesting gameplay mechanics in the first-person. And they're too lazy and cheap to design animation for the third-person. And they're all lazy and use the same Unreal FPS engine. Hence the birth of the "walking simulator." And people try to mock Nintendo for why Metroid Prime 4 is taking so long. Shiiieet. Metroid Prime 4 is being made to FUCKING SHOW YOU what is possible, in a first-person game, because everybody forgot.

Yes the pure gameplay holds up well. Keep in mind the game doesn't hold your hand at all. Though.. there's a hint feature you can turn on that tells you where to go (not how to get there) if you're lost for a long time (from playing the remaster it seems as if they shortened this, so you would get notified a bit quicker compared to the orginal). Outside of that you have to figure out where to go own your own based on environmental clues, your availabilities and exploration. Keep in mind it is not an FPS... Its literally a Metroid Adventure game from the first person perspective. Since this is your first time playing there will be a lotttt of exploration... A lot. There is no auto save. There are save rooms littered throughout the map.
