Cruise does it again.. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One

Recommended Posts

Alot of people don't remember.........this franchise was pretty much going to be dead in the water, after MI2.

MI2 was a joke, it was basically on its way to being xXx and Fast n' Furious levels of stupid.

A complete miscalculation in what audience they were targeting. Most people thought the franchise was gone, until the trailer came around in 2006.

Its clearly obvious everything you've seen from MI 4 thru 7 is clearly rooted in the style that's established in MI3.

MI3 fixed everything, and laid the template.

Its just dumb to have secretaries of states getting assassinated, and the Kremlin blowing up.....and think that the story rests on Ethan Hunt and his team to solve it, and that they have determined that it is best solved just by them, alone.

And in these recent movies, Ethan Hunt being so stupidly devoted to saving everybody on his team, that he ends up taking ridiculous gambles is contrived storytelling. Sure you could say it has to do with the opening scenes of MI1 shaping his entire worldview, but they don't really do a good job of exploring that subject, and what it means to him.
