Twinblade★ 3,922
https://www.theverge.com/2023/9/14/23872330/unity-developers-react-new-pricing-model Oh boy. This company is in deep shit. The number of developers they’re alienating with this is just getting larger and larger. EPIC is probably licking their lips right now at all the potential studios that might switch to UE5. sugarhigh 519
Hopefully Godot engine will get a lot better after this. Unreal just requires a monster workstation to run well. Indie devs need a way to make passable 3d games on consumer grade hardware.
Sabo 442
There's plenty of alternatives. Godot and Armory come to mind. Of course theres UE5 and CryEngine as well. A lot of indie games are 2D so you got stuff like Unfold and GameMaker they can jump to. Always surprised me why so many 2D indie games used Unity when these engines were available, these engines are specialized for 2D games.
Remij 4,680
They'd also been losing key people leading up to this.. suggesting that some shit went down internally and they don't have a clear path forward. They're basically trying anything to survive at this point.
