Unity faces significant backlash after adding fees charged to developers everytime a game is installed

There's plenty of alternatives. Godot and Armory come to mind. Of course theres UE5 and CryEngine as well.

 

A lot of indie games are 2D so you got stuff like Unfold and GameMaker they can jump to. Always surprised me why so many 2D indie games used Unity when these engines were available, these engines are specialized for 2D games.

They'd also been losing key people leading up to this.. suggesting that some shit went down internally and they don't have a clear path forward.  They're basically trying anything to survive at this point.
