  1. I was 11, basically the first year of middle school in the UK. Somehow none of the teachers showed it or explained it to us, I doubt they wanted the responsibility once it was obvious it was a terrorist attack. Got home, turned on the TV and saw the towers coming down over and over again on every channel, I can clearly picture that. I can also remember that evening but not the time I spent in school.

Why did this game get a 7?

    https://www.gamesindustry.biz/starfield-is-the-starting-gun-for-first-party-xbox-games

Speaking at Gamescom, where the company has been showcasing the sci-fi RPG extensively, Xbox chief marketing officer Jerret West said the Bethesda game marks the start of a prolonged period of regular new Xbox exclusives.
"This is, in my mind, the doorway, almost like a starting gun, to what I think is going to be a multi-year relay race of first-party titles," West told us
"I was sitting there watching the same
[Starfield presentation] you were this morning and I was like… this is really the start of something that's going to then lead to Forza, then in 2024 as we go to Hellblade, and we think about Towerborne which is on the show floor, we think about Avowed, and we've got stories we haven't told yet as well, that are going to unfurl in 2024 and 2025.”
Xbox has struggled for consistency with its first-party titles over the last 18 months. 2022 featured few exclusive releases, while its most notable game so far this year, Redfall, was reviewed poorly. However, the firm’s summer showcase in June was received positively from the media.
West continued: "This very much feels like the starting gun for this relay pass that's going to take place over the next couple of years. So as a marketer, I'm super excited about that. And then if you layer in also, Game Pass and the third party relationships that we have... Our third party support that rolls into Game Pass – but also is just on our platform – is critically important too. So I think we are entering a period where this is the beginning of something that's going to be really special over the course of the next several years."

  4. We missed the chance to have a sig bet for the score which everybody would of pussied out of doing, but we can still have one for this.

StarField, Xbox's killer app, console shifting masterpiece, the game Todd had always dreamed of making, the game lemmings had dreamed of claiming as there own (until the scores come out anyway), is finally here!

Will it finally start shifting Xbox consoles? Lets find out who thinks so.

  6. Even with an unbiased take on the current situation, a few things have played out over the last few days against a bigger picture for Xbox as a whole which has been going on for 10 years now. Objectively, Microsoft wants to be number 1 in the console market, they wouldn’t be in it if they weren’t and it’s a two horse race between itself and Sony, as Nintendo plays it’s own game (very successfully too over the last 5 years).

The One X by all measure was a flop relative to the PlayStation, it never got over it’s own terrible launch and Microsoft failure to cultivate first party studios who could repeatedly put out AAAE first party content was exposed during last gen, a trend which hadn’t gone away. They have taken incredible steps to remedy this, with studio acquisitions totalling almost as much as Sony, their only competitor, is actually worth (105 Billion).

I can’t see this as sustainable in its current form, so I’m genuinely wondering, what happens next. Let’s be real about Starfield, the reviews are far from bad, but just skimming over much bigger forums than this and you don’t see a unified story about how this game is the 95+ on MC, must have, console shifting masterpiece it was promised to be and with the current narrative I cannot see it persuading the Playstaion crowd to buy an Xbox which is ultimately what they need to do. They have nothing else on the horizon capable of being that ‘console shifting masterpiece’, and gamepass has plateau’d on a good but not good enough to give new games away on it for the sole price of a subscription.

    What next for Xbox?

  7. Quest breaking bugs, saw people talking about this on GAF earlier (lemmings on there we’re getting roasted too 🤣), one YouTube reviewer said his first save of the best quest in the game was ruined due to the NPC floating out of the ship and into space and just staying there. Interesting this was a side quest, which the dude said was far better the the main story quest.

Looks like we have another cyberpunk on our hands, and this times it’s Microsoft’s prized asset.

I can’t wait for them to flush that 70 Billion down the toilet after Phil puts his signature curse on CoD.
