Playstation Tablet 1,865
People always say that carts last longer, but in my experience dust can butcher any cart and the connectors at the bottom of the cart can start to malfunction. Shit needs to be cleaned with alcohol and the I between connectors cleaner with a needle. Even keeping your game in a box doesn't help. Switch and Vita use flash memory and that shit even when read only damages the storage unlike old carts. Edited September 11, 2018 by Aza Team 2019

Playstation Tablet 1,865
It's just what seems all game collectors are worried about, I never had it. I think even all of Accolade's Sega CD games and Dynamite's Saturn games all work flawlessly.
bhytre 2,815
If you store your discs properly and not in a humid environment, and only grab them by the sides they'll last as long as you live. All my DVD/Blu-ray and game discs look brand new with no fingerprints, some already 20 years old. I also quickly learned to stop letting friends borrow my stuff lmao. When you see them grab the discs like a cookie and put them on the table... Edited September 11, 2018 by bhytre

You'd have to be storing things in some terrible conditions for this to be a worry.
Playstation Tablet 1,865
I just read Blu Ray unlike CDs and DVDs have an inorganic layer that the date is written to, so it's theory disc rot should be impossible. I have no idea what these people are doing with their Blu Rays. And that has been improved further with newer Blu Ray.s Edited September 11, 2018 by Aza Team 2019
Playstation Tablet 1,865
"The loss of data due to oxidation of a microscopic point in the reflective layer on a cheaply manufactured disc is probably far less common than data loss due to mishandling or physical damage to the disc. In other words, it’s a known (but extremely rare and unlikely) risk factor, and it doesn’t even come close to the real-world risk of kids handling the discs."
roflpwnedz 289
It's happened to some discs in the box full of dreamcast games i left in the basement. Cats probably pissed on it too. Good thing I didn't actually buy those games.
