Sheep - new Doom Ditch patch is massive improvement

Recommended Posts

Never understood why you would play this game on the Switch, I suppose because you can take it portable? But what's the point in a playing an FPS running at 30FPS, never mind the drops into the twenty's...

It honestly doesn't feel sluggish at all. They did a very good job getting it to run well on a handheld

For reference Valkyria 4 didn't even get a single video, while they keep shitting out Doom patch videos which are all still trash.

That's not really a nice looking game. What would be the point?

Man, DOOM Eternal is going to be even worse on Switch.

Probably not. Doom was never made to run on Switch hardware. Eternal is being built with switch specs in mind.

No it's not, Eternal graphics have received a nice boost and far larger environments.

It's being made with PS4 specs in mind. The version that will sell the least is not going to dictate the final product, they'll downgrade the Switch version until it works.

Digital Foundry - STFU

No ssr like sheep said , still shit resolution and a 27 fps average with dips to 20

Lmao sheep LIE

who on this board said Doom got SSR added to Switch? :interesting:..... post a link.

Cube Map reflections were added (Not SSR) resolution got bumped to 720p and FPS got further stabilized to 30fps through regular play.

Yes.. its possible to drop the frame rate to 20 something on the highest difficulty in arcade mode on certain areas for a bit.

Eternal for a Switch is not a port,  obviously it won't be the most technically impressive version.

But should run better than the first Doom on Switch because this will be optimized during development.... instead of optimizing through porting code.

@Ramza

we have made the decision to make Switch a, what we call internally, 'first class citizen'.

before, we made the game and then we brought it to Switch, and now we are making the game with Switch in mind

That changes very little, if nothing at all. Coding software during development or after is of little difference, especially on a multiplat project that don't use Switch specs has lead development plat. At best it will be better because it's in-house and not outsourced.

But like I said, at the end of the day Eternal is going to be a lot more demanding than DOOM 2016 was. Thus you should expect the Switch version to struggle even more to run a game that is more graphically ambitious.

Best case scenario is better optimization this time, so you might get a version that will perform similar to DOOM 2016 despite being a better looking game. But to expect Eternal to be significantly better is wishful thinking.

It's only going downhill from now on.

That reminds me of an old convo I used to have with Vini where he thought all PS4 games would be 1080p by the end of the gen because of better optimization over time. :kaz:  When in reality, a lot of PS4 games runs at 900p now. NieR Automata, Dragon Quest XI, Soul Calibur VI. roff, probably thought the Pro was going to run all games at native 4K by the end of the gen too.
