This seems like a pretty bad idea. It's not that people won't find Lord of the Rings interesting or want to see it, but the fact of the matter is people are so attached to the characters from the movies that new people in these roles is going to be a big turn-off.

I’m pretty sure this takes place in the 2nd age before Sauron even started rebuilding his castle in Mordor.

I agree with Dynamite though.. it's going to be weird seeing the new actors play these characters.  Still though, if it's great then that will pass relatively quickly.

Will be epic.  Different timeframe within the same universe. 

 

And since it's Amazon it will be 4K HDR, Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos.   One of the few streaming services that offers that at no extra cost.   Can't wait.
