So who is the second best dev recently?

Recommended Posts

FROM is the best in the last 10 years obviously. 7 bangers in a row, with their biggest miss (DS2) still only being a miss relative to their own catalogue.

Honestly having a hard time thinking of who might be second. Not many devs out there lately who have a decent track record of quality/quantity.

I mean Nintendo is number 1 still. But From seems to be second at the moment.

i mean specific studios, "nintendo" isn't really a studio. but even as a whole they aren't touching from, BOTW is the only game on that level that they've made.

ER wouldn’t exist without BOTW. Easy to make a remix of a hot song but the original song deserves the credit for originality.

after it takes two, hazel light is def up there imo.

I'd say Nintendo EAD2 that is behind Super Mario Galaxy, SMG2, Super Mario 3D World, and Super Mario Odyssey is ridiculously good for the past 15 years.

SMG is a stone-cold GOTY winner.

SMG2 is even better.

SM3DW is merely "very good"

And Odyssey was pretty much competing with BOTW for GOTY awards during 2017.

And then you have their re-release of SM3DW that comes witht he Bowser's Fury expansion that people are saying it very good and hints at the gameplay evolving.

They've been doing fantastic work.

this dude actually said Nintendo is number one... lol.

they have amazing devs, but i think some sheep are stuck in the past. also, this is a tough question to answer. who makes the best open world racers? playground games. who makes the best jrpgs? p studio (if we are going by scores) ? who makes the best rts...cinematic shooters...etc...

the better question would be, who's currently the best (or second best) dev in a particular genre?

No doubt their devs are awesome. But, nostalgia will only carry you so far.

Lets be realistic, FROM laid out an incredible foundation years ago with Demon's Souls but they've been rehashing that same template ever since. The last times they went outside their comfort zone and created different games didn't exactly lead to impressive results

yeah, they seem to be a one trick pony (though, that pony is more like a trojan horse). however, i would like to see more range. i'm curious as to how playground games will handle fable.

They're making a new Fable?
