Microsoft: Xbox has 21% of the installed user base and trails Nintendo/PS

  • Ike★ changed the title to Microsoft: Xbox has 21% of the installed user base and trails Nintendo/PS

A section of the document, submitted by Microsoft, describes its entry into the gaming industry in 2001, when its original Xbox console was outsold by both Sony and Nintendo by a "significant margin". And, per Xbox, it hasn't stopped "losing" the "console wars" ever since.

"Xbox’s console has consistently ranked third (of three) behind PlayStation and Nintendo in sales. In 2021, Xbox had a share of 16% while Nintendo and PlayStation had shares of [redacted] and [redacted], respectively. Likewise for console revenues and share of consoles currently in use by gamers ('installed base'), Xbox trails with 21% while PlayStation and Nintendo have shares of [redacted] and [redacted], respectively."

MS is exaggerating.  It's true that they never came first, but their first two consoles did decent enough.

The OG Xbox came 2nd and the 360 basically tied for 2nd with the PS3.

It's their last two consoles the Xbox 1 and the series S/X that are getting totally DOMINATED by Sony and Nintendo.

But there's a light at the end of the tunnel because apparently Sony and Nintendo will abandon their ultra successful models and copy MS's business model :monkas:

Ms was doing fine with 360, until the later half when sony focused on games and ms went all in on kinect.

They want to blame Sony for their lack of success, but its all their own fault for making shit products with no games.

If windows didnt have a monopoly it would be the same, they'd blame everyone else and ignore the fact that their product stinks. Likewise with windows phones. Microsoft just makes terrible products

Kinect is what gave 360 a HUGE sales boom towards the end of its life cycle.

You mean 2010?

Iirc PS3 caught up at the end of xbox ran out of steam. Also it was supported longer.

Ps3 had more global appeal but sheep on here were posting memes it couldnt even sell 100k in its early days.

What im saying is... if it wasn't for Kinect 360 wouldn't have sold over 80 million.   360 at one point was doing Wii like numbers for almost 2 years which led it to catch up.

PS3 did eventually slighty edge out 360, but if it wasn't for Kinect it wouldn't have been that close to begin with.

My overall point is MS is lying about their first two consoles, they did decent enough.... Its the Xbox1 and the Series S/X that have been an unmitigated disaster.

I don't understand why MS failing at gaming means they should be able to buy up major publishers

Its pretty common sense. Sony is winning and still buying up anything they can and paying to keep games off xbox.

As long as you have been here and you still dont understand this?

Games that have a legacy on PlayStation. Completely different than outright buying publishers because you can’t generate growth naturally for your company. DumB :mj:

So yesterday they say Xbox has been losing the console wars for 20 years, and today Lying Phil says "the console wars are a social construct" :hest:

There isn't a single honest person at Microsoft.
