The reality is that they're private platforms not a public square, your false equivalence doesn't change that reality.

How about you test out that thesis and start posting that stuff online.... see how long you last :trump:

The last part of what I wrote got cut off.

When a handful of the biggest social media platforms house the vast majority of the American public they are no longer merely private entities they have the duty and obligation to uphold the constitutional values of the country at large.

They don't have an ideology that they believe in, they're just afraid of brown people and feminists.  I guarantee none of them looked up Gavin McInnes/Proud Boys on the SPLC:   https://www.s

We need to get you into the space industry.  There's no lengths you won't go to to move the goal posts and we need to colonize Mars anyway.

They are still private entities and they haven't broken any constitutional values because he still has  his freedom of speech.

You are clueless as always.

It might as well be when you have a %90 monopoly on internet biggest communication tools. Come on now, are you dumb? This is just straight common sense.

No.. straight common sense would tell you that they're private entities. You agree to their TOS when you sign up for their free social media sites.

He has his free will and can take his free speech anywhere else he wants.    He can go to right wing media sites and...... oh wait... he got cut loose from them too :mj:

I understand that. I'm arguing that these shouldn't be treated as private entities any longer.

There are no other sites. Being cutoff from these platforms is the same as being shut down entirely.

It's not a question that they a private company, it's a question that a private company holds a stranglehold on communication tools.

Umm there are a ton of right wing media outlets in America ... Ask @Vini to refer you to some.... he watches that shit 24/7:mj:

Of course its a question of it being a private company.  If it was a city, state or federal run organization then you guys would have a point.

But because it is not and his Freedom of speech is still intact..... This is all much a do about nothing.

The irony of this particular situation is that Gavin was banned due to copyright infringement, which to the left 'Isn't good enough' . Yes,he should still be banned, but banned for his rhetoric they said.

Meanwhile, we have a two-page thread on how certain individuals may or may not have had their right to freedom of speech infringed upon.

Then you have McInnes' response:

Quote

Asked for comment Monday about his firing, McInnes told HuffPost he believed “there has been a concerted effort to de-platform me” and claimed he was the victim of “lies and propaganda.”

“Someone very powerful decided long ago that I shouldn’t have a voice,” he wrote in an email. “I’m finally out of platforms and unable to defend myself.... We are no longer living in a free country.”

LOL exactly, they are practically DEMANDING the government to take over the means of internet video distribution.

i.e. Socialism

These people are so warped that they don't even know what they are arguing at this point.

Can you imagine somebody going up to NBC, ABC, CBS during the 1980's and demanded that they be given a primetime show for them to voice their ideas AND they demand that they not be censored in any way.

They'd be laughed out of the building.

I can't help but think that these alt-right'ers are actually the real ENTITLEMENT babies. They sound more whiney than just about any millennial.

Facebook and Twitter are a social media duopoly

YouTube/Google is a media Monopoly

It's very simple, they either fall in line with constitutional rights of US citizens or they get dissolved.

Hey numb nuts... they are in line.  No one's constitutional rights were taken away by social media.

Again... you are clueless and have no idea what Freedom of Speech actually means.

Go read the constitution and then come back here and realize how stupid you sound right now.    :mj:

Their disavowals of bigotry are belied by their actions: rank-and-file Proud Boys and leaders regularly spout white nationalist memes and maintain affiliations with known extremists. They are known for anti-Muslim and misogynistic rhetoric. Proud Boys have appeared alongside other hate groups at extremist gatherings like the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville. Indeed, former Proud Boys member Jason Kesslerhelped to organize the event, which brought together Klansmen, antisemites, Southern racists, and militias. Kessler was only “expelled” from the group after the violence and near-universal condemnation of the Charlottesville rally-goers.

Quote

McInnes himself has ties to the racist right and has contributed to hate sites like VDare.com and American Renaissance, both of which publish the work of white supremacists and so-called “race realists.” He even used Taki’s Magazine — a far-right publication whose contributors include Richard Spencer and Jared Taylor — to announce the founding of the Proud Boys. McInnes plays a duplicitous rhetorical game: rejecting white nationalism and, in particular, the term “alt-right” while espousing some of its central tenets. For example, McInnes has himself said it is fair to call him Islamophobic.

Then there's that one time he shoved a butt plug up his own ass to own the libs.  NSFW WARNING: https://imgur.com/a/MQraN

Can't think of a better visual metaphor to explain the core logic behind the alt-right than THAT, right there.

Shoving a butt plug up their own ass................to own da libs!

no clue who this is

These alt-righters go through more short fads in following right-wing heroes than pre-teen girls.

Notice they don't talk about Jordan Peterson all that much, anymore?  Notice how they talk about Sam Harris even less?

Those guys were so 2017 and 2016.
