Remedy will be joining Sony's first party studios [BODYCOUNT'S TAKE]

Recommended Posts

Nothing confirmed as of yet, but I'm here to follow the trail of recent news that clearly shows us Remedy is joining Sony's stable of studios.

FIRST: Remedy has gone on a grand tour of sony WWS a few weeks back, insomniac included.

There is only one reason for this, these are all first party studios. This would NEVER happen if these companies didn't belong to the same parent company, this just doesn't happen in the industry. You'd be worried about competitors seeing your product, stealing your ideas, and a host of other shit we don't think about.

Even weeks ago, Insomniac was already a part of Sony. So is Remedy, right now. The deal is already in place.

shu would never fly over to Remedy for some dumb marketing deal for a game that's going to sell like Control is. It's too small for anyone to care.

That brings us to the next point, the marketing deal for Control. Who cares about this obscure title?

Why would Sony get exclusive content for this? Exclusive content deals usually go to AAA blockbusters like COD, Star Wars, Monster hunter World, etc.

around the same time Sony was acquiring Insomniac, Remedy regains Alan Wake publishing rights. This was done as part of the terms of the  acquisition for sure, Alan Wake is their most valuable iP.

Sam Lake was one of the first to congratulate insomniac on signing with sony. Coincidence ?

So, IMO, it isn't happening, it's ALREADY HAPPENED. very soon we'll get an announcement, but I'm 99% sure this is happening. Sony owns Remedy and Alan Wake, RIGHT NOW.

tl;dr, SONY owns Remedy right now, it just hasn't been announced yet.

It will be announced after Control's release, because xbox fans will be butthurt and boycott control if they announce too soon.

This is probably true.

it's what's best for remedy.

MS wants nothing to do with them because they've made 2 flops for MS already and it's quite clear the xbox audience isn't interested.

Control Rights went to 505 for dirt cheap. Remedy is hard up and suffering right now. They haven't had a commercial hit since Max Payne which they don't own + is two decades old.

They NEED a first party company to survive. Making exclusives for MS was literally keeping them alive, but Phil dropped them like a hot potato because they aren't profitable.

This is sonys gotcha from last gen when 360 stole all of sonys games .

But the kicker is , 360 stole games and they were still multiplats .

Sony is just taking shit for themselves :mj:

It definitely looks that way, especially all the first parties heavily congratulating and promoting Control (and Remedy).

Definitely wouldn't be announced prior to Control release if it was the case so now we wait and see. Would be a great pick up imo and something that could take Remedy to the next level.

Guerilla Games is a 5 minute walk from Remedy, and this is a Sony aligned marketing deal so studios under their veil are broadcasting the game.

You guys are hilarious.

Sony has had a shit tonne of 3rd party marketing deals and nearly none of them have had the studio visit all the major first parties (Guerilla, ND and Insomniac) and then have all the first parties promote the studio and game also.

Remedy hasn't worked with Sony since the PlayStation 2, think about that, that's 16 years ago. They're getting reacquainted, you guys are reading into more than is there.

BC painting his narrative the exact same way you are. The behaviour is definitely different to other developers atm and in the past, which is interesting to note. We'll see if anything comes from it. You were going on about MS acquiring a giant Japanese studio like FROM and reading into much much smaller things than these lol

Like I said, the utterance of Sony and Remedy hasn't been a thing since 2003. This is the first game on their platform since and they have a marketing deal for the game, it's a big deal for the platform, Remedy and Sony's other respective studios.

It's also an underdog title, the more exposure it gets the more money they can make back from their marketing investment. It's business and orchestrated cooperation.

Control (which is going to do ok numbers at best) coming to PS4 in a multiplat capacity is so far from a big deal to the platform. It's probably one of their smallest marketing deals this entire generation.
