If they release this on VOD as well, and it does CRAZY numbers, it proves that the movie theaters are a dying business.

The snobs who  run the academy awards and prolific directors like Nolan who don’t care for streaming services and have a hard on for movie theatres surely isn’t helping either

The movie theaters will declare war on Warner Bros, and they won't carry any WB movie for a long time.

So, yes, many people will pay $20 to see a Nolan movie on VOD and WB could get a huge payday. But would regular people pay $20 to watch an unproven Suicide Squad sequel? This may come back to bite WB in several ways.

$20 wouldn't make up costs, they release regular movies at that cost after a theater run

Tenet would probably have to cost $60 vod to make the money back

At $60, people will just pirate it.

I think Warner Bros should do a deal in which you buy the VOD for $30, and that comes with two ticket vouchers to see Tenet when it finally comes to theaters in the US.

And WB gives that extra $10 to movie theater chains.

Studios split the ticket sales with theaters 50/50, so they only make half of what a person pays at the theater. They would have to sell two tickets in the most expensive markets to make $20. Even in NYC (the most expensive market in the US) base ticket prices for standard movies is like $17.

VOD definitely has a more limited reach potential than theaters but it's not so cut and dry.

Couples and families go to see movies where they pay for each person, VOD wouldn't work that way. It would have to be more like a pay per view event to make any substantial money back

Not AMC. I worked there during undergrad and studios rent out theaters for a certain amount of time for a flat rate and take in all the profit. Theaters make their money off concession items and their exclusive programs like AMC stubs
