It does not require much work, in some cases none at all, it's the same architecture that plays the same games but with more power under the hood. We're talking about patches, basically.

If it were that simple, then how come most of the games don't support it right out of the gate. 

Improvements like this will always require patching, extra resources. 

I predict only Sony will be supporting the Pro.

Huh no they don't. PS5 to PS5 Pro with dedicated work to optimize will literally have patches and 8000 PS4 and PS5 games will run on PS5 Pro without any patches and should still benefit from the better hardware.
