Really excited for this. Haven't watched the review and I'm not planning to.

I find it strange that you're trying to past SMT has some kind of innovative series in the past when they have been doing the same shit since the 1990s. With some exceptions being the spin off games on PS2. Everything else is pretty similar, even Persona which is now more distinct than the main series because of the social elements, still started has just another SMT clone with first person dungeon crawling. Usually the change is either you have a party of humans, or a party of evolving monsters kinda like Pokemon. That's the two main distinctions going on among the SMT games. Lmao, and even the party based ones still has monster capturing/evolving elements to it.

It's not like I play a new Atlus game every year either so I'm still excited for the same old shit. I played P5 last-gen on PS4 and uh... If this was a mediocre action game like Raidou or that pos Persona 5 Strikers, I wouldn't give a shit. Turn based RPG or get the fuck out.

I’ll give you that for the most part, 90s SMT followed this same sort of trend they’ve been going on now, but with the PS2 they started branching out in a lot more creative ways.

From like 03 to like 09 they dropped bangers that all did enough to distinguish themselves in the SMT franchise and be their own thing.  The only one you could argue was playing it safe was Digital Devil Saga.

But their run from Nocturne to persona 3 to devil summoner and then to devil survivor was all praised for their uniqueness while retaining that SMT style.

now every SMT is really all the same shit with a different coat of paint.

So what I’m saying is they’ve regressed back to the 90s, or am I wrong?

  2. IGN and gamespot gave it a 7. Disappointing. They say the dungeons are unimaginative and the combat system is yet another rehash.

The devil summoner franchise has always been a series where Atlus thought more outside the box with ideas especially with the PS2 games which had action style combat and adventure style elements in pre rendered environments.

To see Atlus now basically copy and paste the exact same gameplay for every game they release and just change asthetics is just sad

Could not get into Diofield Chronicles at all. Its basically a small scale squad based RTS similar to those Warhammer games on PC, and thats the type of gameplay & combat im not remotely a fan of.

I’ve never played those games but to me it felt like an improved version of the Growlanser series, I’m not certain but I’m willing to bet a lot of the same staff who made the Growlanser series probably made this. It just feels too similar.

This style of Strategy rpgs are so few and far between that a new one feels fresh and exciting to me personally

  4. The diofield chronicles demo is so damn good. It went from interested to a must buy

    @Twinblade

you should try out the demo since you’re a fan of strategy rpgs.

Also got cult of the lamb this morning and having a lot of fun. I feel like the simulation aspects is t really clicking with me so far, a bit too micro managey but the dungeon gameplay is damn good. I started it up just to give it a whirl and ended up playing a good 4 hours straight

Got to the second biome in Returnal

Wait till you get to the 3rd :ben:  don’t let any success in the first 2 biomes give you too much confidence just yet.

I just realized Am I the only one who ever beat the game here? It seems most people either didn’t play it or gave up pretty quickly like GD.

Either way enjoy. I think it’s the best 3rd person shooter I ever played.

Watched half of the Northman before calling it quits. It has a great cast and some good ideas but it just felt flat and couldn't keep me interested.

You’re not missing anything. When it was over I found it to be a complete waste of time. Great visuals but my god the story is as generic and predictable as possible

Rogue Galaxy 2 is honestly crack. Ill finish a session, and then continue thinking about the game before booting it up again like 20 minutes later :D  I feel like there's way more variety in this one compared to the first, especially when it comes to the design of the rooms. The same rooms were constantly being recycled in the first game which is one of the reasons I grew tired of it. But even after going through 20+ runs in the same area here im still seeing new rooms with different traps, enemy placement, and layouts.

They made a sequel to that boring Level-5 RPG? :sam:

haha. I still don't know what happens if you make the 'other' choice.

I think you’re thinking of weather to give him up or defend him, I’m later when

    Spoiler

His corpse is found washed ashore in a side story, is unidentifiable but is recognized by his ring

then at the beginning of the next chapter it’s revealed he planted it to make Gustadolph think he’s dead. H

  9. I’m really suppose to believe

    Spoiler

    Roland

Is dead in Triangle strategy? :ben:  After so many other points where he was facing death in the story, him just being discovered randomly dead is what the game is expects me to accept. :ben:

edit: well my dumbass should have waited for the start of the next chapter :trump2:

Well there's not really much side content in the traditional sense. Depending on how you play the game you'll unlock skits with some of the characters that flesh out their background. There's also mock battles, which are basically just optional battles you can grind out that get unlocked as you progress through the story. I did each battle once (the game isn't difficult enough that you need to grind) and went through every skit I was unlocking, and it took me 37 hours. The game probably has twice as much content as that but there's only so much you can do in a single playthrough given the branching nature of the story.

I was hoping when they introduced side stories at the start, that not all of them would be just skits like I’ve been seeing so far. Seems that’s the case which is disappointing.

You will definitely enjoy it. If you want to try and get the perfect ending, then you’ll want to look up a guide after the first few chapters. You’ll have to make specific choices to get on that path.

How long did you say the game was? I’m planning on doing all the side content and not just a main quest play through

I got this :wow2: Was reading some impressions on GAF, and people are really impressed by it. Many are saying its up there with FFT in quality.

    Oh bull shit.

I’ve read and seen enough as well as played the demos extensively to know it’s not on the same level of FFT/ Tactics ogre.

I think it’s likely a decent clone but nothing more. Whoever said that clearly doesent know shit about SRPGS

  13. At the end of Stranger of Paradise.

    SoP >>>>>>> Elden Ring

Elden Ring started off strong but the middle part has been so boring I haven’t touched it in like a week. I also think the Souls formula has reached its ceiling. I was disappointed a tad with DS3 by its overall lack of new and interesting ideas but it was still a good game. I was expecting Elden ring to be the complete reinvention the franchise needed but it’s honestly just the same Souls with a new hat.
