jehurey 3,308
Holy shit. The Blacklist starring James Spader had to cut down its episodes from 22 to 19 to wrap up the season, but, then can't finish filming the final episodes. So they are converting to an animated comic book format. Quote NBC show ‘The Blacklist’ found a bizarre solution to its coronavirus shutdown It's the first live-action drama to use animation to solve the lockdown problem. May 6, 2020, 6:51 am Internet Culture Gavia Baker-Whitelaw NBCBlacklist/Twitter Thanks to coronavirus shutdowns, many TV shows will soon reach a point where they simply run out of new material to air. That means unavoidable delays, but some showrunners are coming up with more creative solutions. Case in point, NBC’s crime thriller The Blacklist. This show isn’t usually at the forefront of groundbreaking innovation, but it’s definitely popular enough to be renewed for an eighth season next year. The problem is, they didn’t quite have time to finish season 7. While The Blacklist didn’t finish filming the finale before they halted production, it’s still going to air next week. How, you may ask? Well, they cobbled it together from a combination of live-action footage and Sin City-looking “graphic novel” animation. So James Spader will now look like… this: NBCBlacklist/Twitter The finale sounds like it was a pretty wild experience to create. The season was meant to run for 22 episodes, but they’re having to end with episode 19, meaning some quick-and-dirty rewrites to wrap up in this half-animated episode. After the show halted filming in mid-March, showrunners Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath joked about finishing the season with an “old-school radio broadcast” voiced by the actors, which evolved into the idea of animated segments edited into the content they’d already filmed. Bokenkamp optimistically told the AP that the show had a lot in common with comic books thanks to Spader’s role as an antihero. By working long distance between animators in London and Atlanta––and mailing sound equipment to the actors so they could record their lines at home––they managed to complete an episode that will air on May 15. This isn’t the first show to radically change its format during the pandemic, but it’s certainly the strangest. So far, Saturday Night Live and the legal drama All Rise have aired episodes where the cast communicated by video chat. Now that's cool.

Ike★ 2,931
So I’ve been rewatching Arrested Development. I know it’s now considered one of the best sitcoms ever made, but the fact they ever had to even make an episode pandering to stay on the air is sad. This show couldn’t buy tv ratings back when it originally aired on Fox and they barely even got a third season. The revival just wasn’t the same and the fact it didn’t get picked up somewhere else quickly after is sad. The show was still so good even when they knew it was coming to an end. I must say, that ultimately they probably shouldn't have gone on for much longer than the 3 seasons. Probably 4 max. I think its quite satisfying that there is a "goal" in the shows storyline that you almost know from the first episode where the "ending" should be. I think the writers being told that their episode count was being cut down did hurt it a bit in the third season. But I think they were operating under the 2nd season with uncertainty of whether they were coming back, so they absolutely loaded up that second season with as many jokes as possible and had just an absolutely fantastic season finale. Its kinda like the backstory for Final Fantasy, they developed that game because the studio thought that was the end, and they ended up knocking it out of the park. Since Arrested Development was always under the chopping block, I think the show had an edge from beginning to end. Please, please watch this show with nice speakers, there are so many good things that are muttered underneath people's breaths that are fucking hilarious.
Ike★ 2,931
Oh, I’m still catching things I’m sure on numerous rewatches and the subtitles are great (I watch everything with them). This is probably my choice for funniest show ever made for seasons 1-3. Edited May 7, 2020 by Ike

-GD-X★ 7,920
i finally watched the westworld finale. i actually really enjoyed it and i look forward to seeing how the series will conclude. i get the disdain towards the episode, but it felt poetic and filled with redemption. there are still lots of questions that need answering, but that's what season 4 is for. while not the epic ending i hoped for, i felt good about its themes. oh...and the visuals were insane...especially early on with a main character being put back together. wow! edit: they answered my biggest question after the credits. Badass!

madmaltese★ 2,700
Alright so been slowly getting through The Handmaid's Tale S2. I've given it every chance I can and I will finish it cause my wife wants to see where it goes but after 2 seasons I really think this might be one of the most overrated critically acclaimed shows of all time. It is filmed beautifully but outside of that it fails on so many levels.

-GD-X★ 7,920
Finished Dead To Me season 2. I liked it a lot! Obviously, it didn’t have 1’s novelty, but there were way more twists and turns in 2. Also, the lead performances were excellent, especially Applegate..wow! The last scene was meh, though. I’m all for twists, but c’mon....

Man, pacing issues for sure. 80% of the season was a snail crawl pace not only in regards to storytelling but even individual scenes. Most scenes are 3x longer than they need to be and the show’s use of slow motion and melodramatic music in such a huge proportion of scenes is so old now. The show has become near torture porn and not in the fun slasher/horror way. They set a tone so heavy and have remain 100% at that tone all the time that there is literally nothing they can do that can illicit emotion from me as a viewer anymore. They can literally start skinning the handmaids alive now and I’ll be like ‘meh, another ep of handmaid’s tale’. So much was unearned and forced in S2 (rape scene was sooo forced as was the out of no where ‘cheating’ and punishment side story) in a show I already feel is so unbelievable (only an issue because they really try to push it as grounded an a possibility). Then to top it off the way S2 ended was a massive eye roll, legit only done to give a reason for a S3. but yeah anyway, had to rant lol thanks for listening cant wait to watch Dead to Me S2!!
