There's a reason sales are falling off, it's EoL for most people, they're gearing up for next-gen, looking forward. We're only 14 months out, the PlayStation 4 Pro has been out for almost 3 years now just for reference to how fast time goes.

That has absolutely no bearing on what a good, high-profile PS4 exclusive (either full exclusive or limited exclusive) will do in sales.

 

By your logic, TLOU shouldn't have sold well in 2013 since it was at the PS3's end of life, and the PS3 felt much older and strained around that time. TLOU sold very well.

 

Or God of War 2 shouldn't have sold well, that game was made about 8 months (?) AFTER the PS3 already went on sale.  GoW2 was a huge seller.

 

If they are good, highly-anticipated games, and they end up being well-received by critics and gamers.......they will sell.

 

Its not up for debate. If anything Sony has more examples of games selling in this scenario than anybody else.

Sony is also known for great end gen game support. It was the same for PS2 and PS3.

 

GOW2 came out after PS3 launched. Gran Turismo after PS4 launched and this time we have BC and PS5 patches.

a PS4 sales decline is still more than Xbox1 was selling before Xbox1 also declined

and in 2018 both systems were really close WW (Switch sold more in Japan and the USA, PS4 sold more in Europe and edged Switch out WW) despite Switch not have a price drop vs PS4 199, bundles and 2 different models. 

 

With that said... the PS4 is not EOL.  Sony tends to release games for the older system at least a year after the new system launches.

 

PS4 will sell a couple 10s of millions between now and PS5 launch ...it's not dead Jim
