Sure, the other games are definitely better but I agree with GTA III getting on the list over the others. The other games didn't have the same level of impact that GTA III had. Even I played the hell out of GTA III. Yeah, it was practically the Mario 64/ OOT of the generation. It's impact was too great to ignore even if Vice City and subsequent sequel all were much better games. 4 minutes ago, kaz said: Gran Turismo 2? kaz 2,439
don't get me wrong, I played it with my brother but 2?? not 3? 3 Is probably on my list man.

I honestly could've picked any of the first 3. 3 is the best GT but it was the psone games were sim racing was up there with my fav genres and it was all thanks to GT1/2 (and 2 is better than 1) so wanted to give it to one of the PS1 games. GT3 is superb though.
madmaltese★ 2,585
Ok, so I just realised I accidentally skipped a game Number 19. was (see below) and everything else moves up a spot after. So GTA 3 finishes at no. 15. (Will edit my previous post to include W3 now) 19. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt There are games that come up and take the genre to that next level and then there are games that come out and make nearly everything around it at the time look like complete utter shit. The Witcher 3 comes into the latter part of that. This game was so damn good that it not only made CD Project Red the new king of WRPGs but made the previous leading games look near unplayable in comparison. Just imagine getting a new ES with the Skyrim engine or a new Dragon Age from Bioware in the vein of Inquistion. would look like a 6.0 game......the same as Andromeda. The Witcher 3 has better and more interesting side quests than most games' main plot. It has one of the biggest and most densely populated (with content) open worlds ever made and an excellent story with superbly written characters throughout the world. An incredible achievement gaming and a new level for RPGs to reach.

I played the second one on the 360 and thought it was alright. Its a lot more linear in design compared to Witcher 3.

This is what I've heard, but the last three times I started the game, something came up - each time during the cinematics, or intro level; so I've been reticent because, well
Teh_Diplomat 2,054
Yet, I've not angered the Total War games, and as such, for the few hours I have a night that's where effort goes.
kaz 2,439
@Teh_Diplomat you should start with the first one then. I actually kinda hate people who say the witcher is amazing but they have only played wither 3 cause its mainstream. also vice versa, I recommend everyone to play the old witcher games. I should have stated, I have played the first one, Got about 4 hours into Witcher 2, but that was half a decade ago, and was got Witcher 3 last year; just cursed when it comes to starting it.
madmaltese★ 2,585
14. The Last of Us (PS3) The game that took story telling in gaming to the whole new level. I know not everyone cares about narrative in games but for me at this stage in gaming as I was getting older it was definitely a factor that I was wanting more and more. So along came The Last of Us, with all the hype of being a new Naughty Dog IP after the massively successful UC2 and 3 and somehow they manage to blow everyone away again. I have recently replayed this (Remastered Ed) and the story and character development is still just as powerful as ever. It was also ND's best that gen from a gameplay perspective, with incredible tense survival horror and an AI that actually assists you (don't know if you all remember just how huge a buzz Ellie actually aiding Joel got at E3 because at that stage escort missions were all a giant chore). With a range of incredible characters, a great pace and arguably the best ending in gaming history, The Last of Us is one of the best games ever made. 13. Half Life 2 (PC) This vote is for HL, HL2 and Ep1/2. What can I say, the very best of Valve and the series that would influence FPS for ever. Combining an amazing setting with excellent shooting, puzzles and incredibly physics based gameplay for the time, HL2 took a genre as popular as FPS and just polished every aspect of it to near perfection. Graphics, sounds, AI (seriously I feel games in this age had better AI than current games) and storytelling are all top levels. Lets also not forget the Gravity Gun. So much fun just interacting with the world with it. Gonna forgive the series for the cliffhanger in Ep2 .... 12. System Shock 2 Kevin Levine you genius. I actually was going to outright cheat and have SS2 AND Bioshock at this spot but decided to just go with SS2 (massive rep to Bioshock, it would be a worthy game for this spot too) because for the time, this game was incredible. A first person hybrid that blended exploration, rpg mechanics and shooting with an amazing setting and intense atmosphere. System Shock 2 was everything I was looking for in a game at that age and is one of the pioneers of genre blending games (first person shooter/horror, exploration RPG?) 11. Final Fantasy VI (SNES) The best of Final Fantasy game, FFVI! Picking only one from the whole series was hard as I'd prob have 3 in this top 50 (if not 4) if I didn't, but if I can only pick one then that choice goes to VI. Had everything you could ever hope for from a JRPG. Excellent combat system, superb soundtrack, awesome setting, a huge cast of characters including some of the best Heroes in FF history and imo the best villain with Kefka (yes Kefka > Sephiroth) and a great story. One of the few FFs I have actually replayed too and it is still as amazing as ever. An all time classic!

Sabo 442
Disagree on Kefka. Caius is the best FF villain. No joke, drop dead serious. Very well written character. He had very understandable reasoning for his actions and he just straight up accomplished his goal. Cauis won.
kaz 2,439
I don't agree on Caius. Kefka tho was boring, the only vile shit he did was poisoning the water. Even Kuja was more badass.
