You realize Epic has the EXACT type of policy in place? No... Apple CAN make a game, and put it on Windows....... and they don't have to pay ANY royalties.... WINDOWS = the platform.... iOS = the platform.. App store = a STORE..... EGS = a STORE.... If Apple wants to put a game on EGS, and advertise their game to that market of people... then of course they should pay the royalties... but only for the sale of the game... not for every transaction forever that takes place within the game if the developers have a system in place to do so. Can you imagine MS trying to control Epic and saying hey... you can't sell games on your store without paying us 30%... because it's running on our platform... That's what Apple is doing by forcing companies to sell through their ecosystem and Apple taxing every transaction... Jesus christ Edited August 24, 2020 by HALOmij
Goukosan 2,339
Lmfao.... Ghostz is soo clueless. He thinks UE can't be updated on any platform because of this? The only people getting shafted will be iOS and Mac users. Edited August 24, 2020 by Goukosan

Any developer using the engine would be unable to patch security flaws or fix bugs once the access was revoked, effectively halting support for a wide range of games including Microsoft’s Forza. Jesus christ You realize Microsoft and Epic take a cut of in app purchases, too right? You realize if you sell something on Xbox live, Microsoft takes a cut right? you realize that if you try to sell anything (game, in app purchase, etc) both MS and Epic take a cut if it’s sold from THEIR store...RIGHT?????? jehurey 3,313
Now that this thread has been cleaned up and back on track, we can get back to discussing that Epic is pretty much pointing to EU antitrust regulators, who are already looking into Apple, where it can be argued that they and Google essentially control an oligopoly in the smartphone space, and their rules are completely arbritrary since other apps do not have to pay 30%. And everything that Epic will claim will be 100% true and provable. Google also having a more open OS actually works against Apple, and Epic will make that comparison as well. All signs point to either Epic or the EU Antitrust Regulators poking a hole in Apple's closed ecosystem.

Or, it looks like Epic flat out broke a TOS after signing it and will be required to do as Apple says if they want fortnite back on the App Store.

No.........they can get the TOS ruled as illegal and anti-competitive. That is the whole point of an anti-trust lawsuit.......it seems like you don't understand this simple fact. Just because they wrote it in a contract, doesn't make the contract legal. If it seen an anti-competitive by an Antitrust regulator, they can rule the terms null. Apple will have to give a valid reason why they give some apps 0% (like Amazon) and why they enforce 30% in others. And if it looks like Apple is being unfair with how they do that, the regulators will force something to be changed.

Even worse..........they gave them the freedom to use their own credit card processing system completely outside of Apple's processing system. I mean...........that IS zero percent, technically. Amazon isn't giving Apple a single penny for processing payments through their iPhone app. Epic would absolutely take this setup, as well. A whole bunch of apps would.
