You do realize it runs full tilt at all times right?

Not necessarily, the specs gives a clock speed of "up to" meaning that it could potentially have an "eco" mode.

What is notable is that the specs they have given is the advertised top speed, and it cannot (officially) perform better if you connect it to a direct power source.

That is unlike the Switch, which does have a higher clockspeed profile when docked.

That's because Nintendo is concerned about battery life, Valve isn't.

They should if they want a device that's actually viable as a handheld.

or else, its just a novelty product.

Which, let's be honest here............we know that's all it is, and all it ever will be.

You don't need more than two hours of battery, not to mention in virtually any use case you'll be in proximity of a power source not to mention power bricks.

This is targeting power users, no one cares.

This guy just said "a handheld doesn't need more than two hours battery life"

That's right up there with his other classics:

"a console doesn't need exclusives"

and just recently: "high-end PC gamers don't game at 4K"

Why? The target market and goal is entirely different. Different rules apply.

Yeah the target market for the Steam Deck are idiots who buy novelty items and have money to waste.

You're correct, that's an entire different market.

It does not.

“We didn't really feel like we should also target going after the dock scenario at higher resolutions. We wanted a simpler design target and to prioritize that"

They literally said they made a design choice to stick to a mobile profile.  Which makes sense if they want it to be portable and not a hybrid.
