Can’t help but feel like it’s convenient for GN to try and cancel LTT who surely are the biggest media platform talking about PC’s and tech. They’re not perfect but the reasons they listed (at least in the 4-5 mins I watched, not watching for 42 mins lol) seem slightly tame, it’s not like they’re calling Linus out for running around his office with his dick out or something.

yeah, the thing is that Steve has clearly become a bit sanctimonious and has developed a holier-than-thou attitude.

Linus did make a valid point.

It is basic journalism 101 that YOU HAVE TO GO to the subject you are talking about to get their response, or else it does look like an obvious hit piece.

He didn't do that, because his goal was to blindside them and get a surprise impulse reaction.

That's not journalism, that's a youtube stunt. He's creating youtube drama, intentionally, against a very popular channel. yet he tries to portay his videos like a news show.

And he probably is doing it because he fears that LTT is branching out to doing "labs" content that will take away viewers from his channel.

He explained exactly why he doesn't have to go to the subject to get their response in his newest video.

Linus has gotten away with his shitty practices and lack of integrity for long enough.  It's fine to be a goofy entertainment driven tech channel... but the inaccuracies which can be found throughout basically all of their testing is potentially harming consumers.

And let's be real.. Steve only called them out because they started talking shit about GN first... and it's NOT a hit piece if what you're reporting is factually accurate....  There WERE mistakes in those videos, and Linus DID fuck up with the Billet situation....

I don't think GN has any fear of Linus branching out... he's literally calling for them to do better.  If you're going to do "labs content" then the data needs to be reliable.. and LTT has proven time and time again that they aren't.

actual journalist don't have to make reasons for WHY YOU SHOULDN'T seek comment for something that you are calling an "investigative report"

You HAVE to do it.

It is a basic common thing in journalism...........you don't make excuses for it, even if you think you have great excuses.

He did it to blindside him, and clearly to not give him a heads up to see if he could rectify some things.

That's yellow journalism.

You don't have to do it and Linus literally tried to cover it up by bullshiting about having an agreement in place to pay the Billet Labs guys. GN was completely in the right not to go to LTT first and Linus showed exactly why.

Yes he does, if he actually wants to release it as an actual "investigative report"

Here, let me explain in the simplest terms.

If he had an ACTUAL news editor review his report.........the editor wouldn't allow this to release without him seeking comment.

"right" has nothing to do with it.

You're basically saying you're okay with fanboy-based stunts being disguised as "journalism."

Rachel Maddow's producers still has to go to Trump's people to seek comment when they got a copy of his taxes.

You're talking like as if this is something negotiable. Its not.

Rachel Maddow would absolutely not contact somebody if they felt a cover up would take place or that the information was in the public domain and didn't require comment. The entire point of contacting the subject of an article for comment is to ensure the information in your article is accurate and thorough, it's not a courtesy to the subject to alert them to the existence of the article.

What information do you think Linus would have provided to GN had they contacted him prior to releasing the video? We've already seen him literally lie and try to cover up the Billet Labs situation. He posted a lengthy response to the first video and didn't identify anything incorrect except the 'sold at auction' vs. 'auctioned at auction(?)' semantics.

a cover up?

Dude............did he actually give that as his "excuse"?

Because that would discredit him more.

That would absolutely make him look like a sanctimonious gatekeeping douche, if he's thinking like that.

This could 100% be a case of "Linus didn't know about this prototype cooler, and he didn't realize that it was a prototype when it went to get sold, AND when the manufacturer contact them about it, he didn't see the email."

And if that's the case, and Steve presents him with the information, Steve would have to present Linus's excuses in his "reporting."

"Cover up"..............get the fuck out of here with that shit.:drake:You're inadvertently proving that Steve intentionally avoided doing something, which makes him a suspect of bias.

If he's a journalist, he's held to standard THE HE DOESN'T GET to decide when, or when not to follow. That's the whole point of standards existing, and having integrity.

They mention it’s a one of a kind prototype in the original video, so this example doesn’t really work.

I think there’s a point to be made along this line of reasoning that does have some merit, though. That LMG might not have understood the manufacturer wanted it back as that information wasn’t in the public domain prior to the initial GN video.

GN cited conversations between Billet Labs and LMG provided by Billet Labs in that original video. Those conversations clearly showcased their desire to have it back and LMG has acknowledged those conversations as accurate and that LMG is at fault, but prior to that acknowledgment there was no public statement from LMG about it and it would have been prudent to at least confirm Billet Labs wasn’t just making shit up by contacting LMG.

I feel like GN guy watched every LTT video taking notes just waiting for this day to come. Sounds like most of the sheep and cows at SW.

Of course this would be slow Jonny's take on this.

Its unfathomable to him that people actually remember shit and call out the BS.  That MUST MEAN that GN went hunting for gotchas... That's the only explanation.

Never change Sloooooowwww Jonny.
