Its still a port of a game designed for PS5/Series X.

A game made specifically for Switch means designed from the ground up for Switch genius.

When people say deck won't have games made specifically for it that's what they mean.

Yea its not a good buy, this is a PS5 level game. Switch can't keep up with that.

The point was about being able to targeting specific hardware and better utilize it.. that happened here with this port and it still turned out horribly.

Not even compared to PS5... it's just ugly in general.

You're probably the only person who thinks a port means "made specifically for".. Lol :umad:

This port clearly was specifically designed for Switch.  The models and backgrounds are completely different to other versions.

It's very ugly in general on Switch because the game was designed around PS5 level hardware that was then ported down, waaaay down to Switch 1.

Targeting specific Switch hardware would mean the game was designed with switch in mind and then ported up to PS5.

Like how MH Rise was designed around Switch... Specifically Switch hardware. (even though PC was planned from the jump as well)

So from textures, gameplay, geometry, memory usage etc.. All designed specially around Switch hardware.

You're confusing the porting process with game design.

It's a port of a game that was designed for higher spec hardware.

I remember so many kids owning MK on Gameboy back in the day. This port is fine compared to this.

Yea this is waaaay worse BUT the Switch version of this new MK1 is terrible and frankly shouldn't have been ported.

We're at the point now where games are being designed for PS5/Series X with no cross gen version on PS4.... Switch 1 can't keep up to put out a decent version of PS5 games.

This.

The idea was that Steamdeck wouldn't be able to run some games well, and at that point it was the end of the road because the hardware just couldn't handle it. Mortal Kombat is a good example becauase from what I can see it's difficult to get 60fps on Steamdeck.

But Switch wouldn't find itself with a game it just couldn't run because games would be ported to specifically target the Switch. Which we see here.....but was it really worth it? Lowest res and looks like ass.

Just because a game can be ported to a system it doesn't mean it should. The game is a skip either way.

No I get it.  I just thought the argument wasn't ever about being designed from the ground up, but rather how well ports could be optimized for Steam Deck vs Switch 1/2 as handheld devices.  This game obviously wasn't designed around the specs of the Switch and then ported up.. but it was still custom built and ported for the Switch on development kits.. which means there's optimization that is indeed happening here to get it to work at all.  They made specific decisions when porting this game to get it to work on Switch and these are the results we're seeing.

That would be a silly argument to have because of the huge power gap between Switch and deck.

From the start I've been talking about  games made specifically for it aka from the ground up.

That is what has kept the Switch alive for 7 years.  1st and 3rd party developers making games specifically for Switch.  So even now that the hardware is even more ancient, the system STILL has new games still being made for it.. From the ground up.

The deck is already starting to struggle running current gen games that have no cross gen version.... It will only get worse for it.... But it doesn't have the luxury of falling back on games that were made specifically for it from the ground up.

So unlike the Switch you will not be getting 7 years of new games, unless it's indies.

What you will get though is portable access to you old steam library.

It is a silly argument.. but from what I remember it was being applied to the future potential for optimization of the Switch 2 in comparison to Deck.

What you're really saying is "exclusive games"...  as in.. it doesn't really matter how well they run... just that they only run on that device.. which makes it relevant.  Obviously I'd agree with that.  Consoles inherently need games to continue to sell them..  PC has never followed that rule exactly.  It doesn't need exclusive software.  PC has other unique features which are inherent to the type of platform it is.

Deck 1 will work for years and years in the way you said.. AA and indie games.. and your old Steam library.  That's all it needs to remain relevant for PC players.  PC players expecting to play the latest and greatest will either play them on the PC, or upgrade to one of the various new devices which will continue to release during the 7 years of the Switch 2 lifecycle.  For the people who buy Steam Deck 2 or whatever, that device will likely last for years and years playing the latest games at acceptable framerate and IQ.  The Deck 1 kinda just missed the boat.
