XBox :D

Maverick is the discless One model, they will decide if they go discless based on the reaction to this.

Dynamite time to damage control. :kaz:

Saves on costs which can be put elsewhere.  More compact and efficient cooling console.  No spinning or moving parts (possibly the HDD (could be SSD with extra savings)) which means quieter operation, and less prone to failure.  Each year digital sales are growing exponentially..  Retail stores focusing on physical games are a dying thing of the past..Gamestop is going under..  MS is more focused on subscription models which the industry is definitely adopting at a fast rate.

It's time.  You don't have good internet?  They have a console for that... it's called the Xbox One.

Let's go MS :smoke:

Aza, your days are numbered :smug:

DynamiteCop - Well Xbox already sells a billion units of software digitally, so by that metric it only makes sense to maximize digital adoption and take the lead and a bold step of a disc-less console for next gen lag less, 0 latency, ultra HDR 4K streaming.

Gamepass for 1 dollah!

MS has the money to lose to push their agenda of subscriptions and digital distribution which ties into their most successful business.. the cloud.

This shit is NOTHING for them.

I said this exact same thing in the last thread that hinted next Xbox would be digital only. Dynamite said it won't happen.

It's going to be hilarious to see disc BC get fucked over. Going to have some ghetto digital store trade in at best.

Just visit the Windows store at your local mall to trade in your used Xbox/X360 and Xbox One discs!:idid:

It likely wont happen for the next one.  They'll likely have a disc-less version which is slightly cheaper.. but they'll still have a physical drive in the main box.  The gen after that... yea, it's gone completely.

Or maybe just register them to your account... then they are useless on anything but the original hardware..

Makes zero sense. The cheaper leading model will be based on codes but the lesser selling one will have discs. Doesn't add up business sensewise

You think the disc-less version would sell more?

Then maybe they are on to something? :drake:

What unique code or verification method would be "registered" online to Microsoft?

Unless you are saying that they have to do the registration with another piece of Xbox hardware that has the disc drive and can verify it as an authentic disc copy.

Let's say you're a lapsed former X360 owner, never touched an Xbox One (which is very common), and now want to buy a discless console. How would they go about transferring their game discs digitally?

Aza is right, if the "mainstream" model is the discless one, then the $500-$600 ultra, renders everything at 4K model probably won't have a disc drive either.

Because retailers are not going to devote shelf space for ONE version of an Xbox console, that isn't even the main console.

Retailers will be pissed that the console went digital
