Playstation Tablet 1,857
https://www.thurrott.com/games/xbox/238570/microsofts-updating-xbox-game-pass-branding The company is rebranding Xbox Game Pass to simply Game Pass. This move distances the companies Game Pass subscription from being explicitly tied to its gaming console. The company is also changing Xbox Game Pass for PC to simply Game Pass for PC. While this is a minor update, this may be the start of a bigger transition for Microsoft. The company recently removed Xbox Live pre-paid cards for 12 months from its website and many, myself included, believe that this is the start of phasing out Xbox Live Gold. DynamiteCop 2,158
This isn't entirely accurate and doesn't really explain it well, they merely removed the actual name Xbox from the service, the Xbox logo however remains. It was (Logo) Xbox GamePass, now it's (Logo) GamePass which encompases their umbrella of services. It was kind of a redundancy before which tied more to the console instead of their console/PC focus. Xbox is the console. Edited August 1, 2020 by DynamiteCop!
Playstation Tablet 1,857
Game pass is their true "next generation" they said. Whatever that's supposed to even mean.

It uproots the conventional model of how games are consumed. For the price of 3 games a year you have access to hundreds, you have access to your games on the go with xCloud. It's going to change the face of gaming forever.
Playstation Tablet 1,857
Phil Spencer @XboxP3 I wanted to thank the community for the support on PC. We made statements like this a few times over the years and the skeptical responses were earned. More work to do but the support we are seeing through @XboxGamePassPC and @Steam team right now is really great, thanks. Phil Spencer @XboxP3 The "may actually" is earned. We are committed and understand we have to prove it -- Microsoft may actually be committed to PC gaming this time

Playstation Tablet 1,857
Animal Crossing alone at $60 in term of revenue surpasses what game pass as a whole makes in a year. That's noting Animal Crossing is all pure profit when MS admits they arent making anything notable on game pass.

That's noting Animal Crossing is all pure profit when MS admits they arent making anything notable on game pass. The hell are you talking about? GamePass has over 10 million subscribers. Like last year before Microsoft hardlined the extended discounts on GamePass Benji said the average sub was about $6-7 a month accounting for people still subscribed at full cost and those at the $1 introductory rate. Most of the people now would be at the full rate so that swing is easily over $10 a month. Even at that subtracted rate that's $720 - $840 million annually. Now it's undoubtedly more in the $1.2+ billion range, and this is only going to get higher, and higher, and higher while something like Animal Crossing will completely cease to be a revenue form. The GamePass model isn't about immediate return, it's about elongated sustainability which will scale up dramatically over time and be a continued revenue source. You're also forgetting direct game sales on top of what GamePass brings in, games are still selling quite well even in spite of GamePass existing. Edited August 1, 2020 by DynamiteCop! Remij 5,038
Not a bad idea. Simplifies things a bit... especially when they start adding more devices and entry points. Right now it's Xbox and PC, but there'll be mobile and TVs that come with Xbox/Gamepass apps too.

jehurey 3,318
Sounds like there isn't going to be an Xbox division, but a full-blown third-party game service distribution.

It doesn't sound like that at all and only a retard would construe this that way. Xbox is the console, it is their hardware platform and they're merely emphasizing that to keep a clear delineation from the PC, GamePass and xCloud. Nothing is changing in terms of what's currently happening, they're just drawing a line, compartmentalizing and reestablishing the system itself.

Playstation Tablet 1,857
There is no denying that XBox next gen hardware is an afterthought for MS, but throwing gamepass under the bus for F2P Halo MP is most surprising.

It's not an afterthought... lmfao... It's just simply not the ONLY thought. MS has bigger ambitions. Sony's gameplay is release a lot of consoles. MS' gameplan is release a lot of games bring people into your services no matter which MS platform you play on.. Cmon man.. you don't make a console like the Series X..... as an afterthought... that's just stupid.

Xbox One S is going too... it will be replaced with Lockhart. The entire lineup of platforms will be Series S.. the entry point, Series X, the high end point, and PC. Just because they've promised to make some games cross gen for a while doesn't mean that the consoles will still continue to be sold... so those production resources are shifted to the new consoles. Like I've said before... MS "consoles" in the future will just be generic PCs. Edited August 1, 2020 by HALOmij
