In order to not credit him they had his replacement shoot over half of the movie and gutted Donners scenes. Part of the problem is that he shot some scenes they couldn't cut for continuity so they added dumb shit. The Donner cut is supposedly much better but he never got to shoot the ending scenes and it was impossible to film that over again so it's not his complete vision.
