Ike★ 2,952
https://www.ign.com/articles/outriders-copies-sold-royalties-square-enix No wonder MS is just buying the studios outright instead of trying to get partners to buy in. There’s no profit or money to be had for them.
Cooke 2,061
Did you actually read the article? This has more to do with Square Enix not being upfront with the developer. They say it sold between 2-3 million units and haven't received any royalties from square Enix.

Not to mention this game is on four other platforms that are not Xbox... OP is a retard.

"according to the Publisher, the revenues from the sale of the game are lower than the total costs of its production (including Quality Assurance), distribution and promotion." Wojciechowski also suggests that a lack of profitability could be caused by the publisher, including distribution partnerships (the game was launched into Xbox Game Pass, for example)... If the distribution partnership wasn't factored in the game would have been profitable at 2 - 3 million sold (guesstimate) and the developers would have gotten royalties. Which was Ike's point, which is something that you, Cooke and DynamiteCop apparently missed. the company had no firm data for copies sold: "We don't have any sales figures for Outriders" Edited August 17, 2021 by Goukosan
Mr. House 3,371
I bet Square Enix are a scummy publisher to work with. Can't even give them sales numbers and doesn't give them a response as to why 0 royalties came on the date it was supposed to. Am I reading this right or is it just me? lmao

The developer DOESN'T KNOW... so stop pretending like you do. This thread is retarded
madmaltese★ 2,803
That is very surprising considering the game was a huge hit when it launched. Wonder if it's some technicality that PCF get paid on sales which excluded them from the GP deal, which they clearly had no part in? 3 hours ago, Remij said: The article is simply about the publisher not being upfront with the developer. Not really. The article is about the devs not receiving royalties based on performance which indicate that the game didn't make any profits. They don't know the sales for Outriders because they didn't receive any payment from the royalty deal they agreed to with SE.

This isn't a Game Pass issue.. this is a SquareEnix issue... and until SquareEnix reveals the financials of the game... it's pure speculation. The developer estimates that 2-3 million copies were sold... and that they should be profitable by a certain date. That date has passed and they still haven't been paid... so either it simply hasn't reached the target that the developer assumes, or it ended up costing more than the developer knows. Regardless, SquareEnix hasn't been upfront with them about the game. Again, that's not a Game Pass issue.. That's a SquareEnix issue.

Ike★ 2,952
So MS just paid a lump sum to SE to have it listed on GP since they publish and maybe the developer negotiated a contract based on sales? That would be super scummy.

They used GP to screw over the devs. GP will obviously hamper retail sales (despite what Phil and lemmings were saying for a year plus that it wouldn't).... Developer is now left out in the dark because that deal with MS for GP is a publishing deal between MS and Square.
