Sony patents Camera in Dualshock 5

Recommended Posts

Can't seem to copy paste on a phone, it also also aligns with the rumour PS5 will have a camera on the actual console (wtf).

So two cameras for a VR controller option could make shit BC with Move controllers?

Makes sense how it will now have VR support for what seems a budget option, at least for the standard Dualshock 5.

Seems like something that will increase the price of the console while adding pretty much nothing of value. Guess we should expect another underpowered piece of hardware so they can hit their price point.

Nintendo already did this. How can they patent it?

Who cares we have a hint at their standard VR solution.

I expect split controllers, each with a camera, touchscreen option in the middle for streaming. Also the main grip the split controller attaches to, to have a Dreamcast VMU from the patent.

The main issues are 1.) They have to keep the cost of the PSVR hardware low while trying to improve its capabilities.

And 2.) It needs to be installed EASILY onto the PS5.

So cables are a problem, that additional box for processing is a problem.  So are they going to be basing their VR on that "camera detects light" technology? Then they need cameras.

But can you have WIRELESS cameras, or are you going to need to have them connected to the console via USB? Can you have a wireless headset? That would be huge.

We can be pretty confident that the headset will connect by a single Virtual Link USB-C connection, and depending on what they do, the pods can 100% be wireless.

There's already wireless transmitters you can buy to make the Rift and Vive wireless already.  I'm pretty sure I remember hearing about one for the Vive anyway.  It's not impossible, and it doesn't add an unreasonable amount of lag, but we'll have to see what Sony does.  Could go either way in 2 years time.

Why increase price for something that doesn't sell. ITs like packing in Kinect.

PS4 sold what , 80 million? PSVR sold under 4 million. Nobody cares about it, don't increase cost for something nobody wants.
