I don't understand how you can't view this is a great time for stand up comedy with Netflix and HBO giving the medium a bigger platform than it's had since the 80s. And that's with Amazon only having one stand up special under its belt so far. Yeah, 90% of it is shit but that applies to every year of comedy. Fucking Harland Williams was the face of HBO stand up comedy for awhile in the 90s.

Fucking Harland Williams was the face of HBO stand up comedy for awhile in the 90s. It's been a terrible time for stand up and Chappelle explains why in the video posted in OP. Cancel culture. I think it's starting to change now though.

You think the last 5 years has been worse in terms of stand up output than the previous 20 years? 19 minutes ago, Vini said: Chappelle explains why in the video posted in OP. Cancel culture. I can name a dozen stand up comedians that have made a career riding on the back of complaining about cancel culture. It hasn't affected the quality of stand up that's out there. Maybe some comedians don't get the shine they should and people like Jim Gaffigan get a bit too much because he's clean and people like Amy Schumer get entirely too much because they tick a bunch of boxes, but, again, that's always been the norm. Boss 70
Latest special was great lol Vini has no idea what he's talking about yet again. Just a sensationalist, fairweather comedy fan. If anything, due to the amount of platforms and our ability to search and find just about any type of comedy we want, (from lesser knowns to the big timers) this is a new golden age of comedy. I swear you said the same shit about Chappelle when he dropped specials not 2 years ago :\
