sugarhigh 519
The rest of this generation was gonna be brutal for Xbox regardless. The CMA might've killed Xbox for good.

Twinblade★ 3,922
MS must have a sizeable & experienced legal team thats actively working on appealing this decision and getting the merger through. I don't think this is going to hold water in the long run.

I think if MS legal team already had ideas of backup plans or ways to circumvent this, the executives wouldn't have immediately lashed out like little babies. They're acting like they were really dependent on this going through. There's no way their reaction and words during this past week has helped them with the other two regulatory bodies. I don't think this is going to hold water in the long run. Their legal team is completely powerless here. This isn't like the FTC where this shit goes to a court. There is no court with the CMA in the UK. The appeal goes right back to the CMA where MS has to prove the CMA themselves that they didn't due their due diligence in regulating the case. The chances of MS reversing a CMA decision are less than 1% under normal conditions. In all the times a CMA case has been appealed, the CMA has only gone back on their decision once and they only allowed the deal to go through with heavy modifications and regulations, essentially the original deal had to die and a new deal had to be created. With MS essentially insulting the CMA and threatening the entire UK the chances of this ruling being reversed are effectively 0%. This is one area where MS' trillions of dollars, paid lawyers and lobbyists is completely useless. They fucked up thinking they could bully the CMA like they do with the FTC in the US, and the CMA and UK government have basically given them the finger. The deal is dead AF at this point. sugarhigh 519
If Xbox Series finishes worse than Xbox One, it is time to call it quits. Buying Activision was the big hail mary and it failed. Now they've got Bethesda, another big publisher heavily reliant on Playstation players exclusive to a fucking anchor on the industry. The worst thing MS could do is fail for another 10 years and drag down some truly classic teams with them. Edited May 1, 2023 by sugarhigh

They're going to continue XBox but this gen has been an utter disaster for them everything flopped. Halo, Series S, gamepass non of this shit is working.

The best case is MS kills Xbox at the end of this pathetic generation and spins out Bethesda. This game shit is just not strategic to MS anymore and they're bad at it. jehurey 3,231
Here was their original plan that Phil Spencer sold Salty nutella on about XBox gaming: They're not going to beat either Sony or Nintendo in the TRADITIONAL gaming market, because once the consumer decides on which hardware console they buy, all multiplat games will be sold for that hardware. So let's move the gaming market to the cloud where Sony and Nintendo don't really exist, and they would take almost a decade or more to build their infrastructure to where Microsoft is at with Azure But how do you move them over? Give them GamePass for cheap, and now you have all of them subscribed to a Microsoft account (THIS IS IMPORTANT) Release hardware in 2020, you probably won't win during that gen. But the goal is to get people on gamepass Keep on working to improve cloud gaming during the latter half of the decade. By 2026-2027, they've worked to solve the lag problem. Probably even have compressed 4K streaming at that point. Announce that GamePass is 100% moving to the cloud, there is NO MORE "next-gen" console. Like Azure computing service, they can simple "scale" to handle any new cutting-edge next-gen game. If you have any piece of Xbox hardware, it can be used as an xCloud streaming device. You can have an old Xbox One S in your closet. If you have any PC that connects to the internet, it can stream xCloud. Literally any old laptop, any old outdated PC. Any smartphone as well. Any SmartTV as well, or a Roku or Google Chromecast device. And they'll probably sell their own smart TV dongle Basically, Nintendo and Sony cannot compete with a gaming platform that essentially has ZERO dollar costs to play its games. EA, Ubisoft, and the other third-parties either agree to sign onto GamePass/xCloud or they sell stand-alone licenses to play their games for full price. Hell they could even RENT out their games for 24/48/72 hour periods for the same pricing you see Movie VOD rentals ($7.99/$13,99/$19,99) Eventually, the pricing for Azure gaming will be based on usage, just like it is with Azure computing. Microsoft completely owns the market, since Google and Amazon don't have the biggest gaming franchises. Microsoft gets you to sign up for a Microsoft account with GamePass, and then they leave the hardware business and give you no option to continue GamePass except through Azure.
