I have a deep dark confession to make. I bought MGS4 not too long after its launch, but I purposely did not play it because I wanted to buy the MGS Essentials Collection and play through ALL of those games first (because I never played Snake Eater outside of the demos). I got halfway through MGS1 and stopped playing, therefore I never finished the Essentials collection and never started MGS4, which remains sealed in its plastic to this day. So I have some catching up to do with the MGS series. I was just never in the mood to keep up with the storyline. Technically, I wanted to play to play MGS Essentials with Twin Snakes (again) in between MGS 1 and 2.

Play Subsistence. It has a behind-the-back camera that makes the gameplay much, much better, the most coherent script in the series, and the story's fairly self-contained so you can easily understand it without playing the other games. It's a fantastic game.
