except he clearly references them as two separate things.

because they could theoretically have xCloud to SELL PEOPLE $60 games that aren't on GamePass.

The rumor explicitly says GamePass. It would mentioned xCloud and it would've clearly mentioned streaming at some point in the rumor, its not exactly a small detail. LOL

People thought Nintendo was gonna revive a dead and buried game and these madmen go and revive an entire dead and buried company.

that's a wrap, folks. Wish you would have all seen this coming and sold of your Xboxes while you could. Almost too late now.   Xboner's reveal was literally a deathblow. the brand was sunk b

This thread will be great to look back on one day

First of all, the rumor specifically said GamePass.........when we know that Microsoft considered GamePass and xCloud as two different things.

And secondly, seeing lemmings trying to sell us on the idea of "bringing games to phones will be HUGE" is just laughable. Like Aza says...........its gaming predictions straight out of 2010.

If Microsoft released xCloud on nothing BUT iOS and Android phones, their service would be criticized, and it would gain no traction whatsoever. People will not continue paying $10/month for that experience. The subscriber numbers would stall and dwindle.

The best chance of that service thriving, and possibly GROWING is through PC and through Switch.

But with that said........Microsoft hasn't even PROVEN their concept. Google has beaten them to it, and they have only done it on the PC.

I simply don't think you can do it unless you have a hardline internet connection, or else its going to be a laggy mess. I don't think they have xCloud ready yet.  Its probably easier for them to just downport certain GamePass games to Switch.

You're a plain fucking idiot if you don't think phones and tablets are the primary market they are looking to to EXPAND the core gaming market potential userbase.... Are you forgetting that little thing?  If they released a powerful console and had AAA games releasing regularly... those Switch and Windows gamers would be buying the console...not streaming.. they are core gamers..

STREAMING is meant to EXPAND the market... not fill in for the market they are currently failing in.  They know they need to fix those problems to gain a larger foothold in THAT market... Expanding the market to ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANY DEVICE.. is the goal of xcloud and gamepass.

Game pass and XCloud are complementary. I can't see a scenario where you can't log into your XBox account and not buy a new game for $60 as an option, and being forced into game pass alone.

There is no way they are cutting off this. Especially if there will be some type of third party presence.

You'd think these idiots would understand these things... you know with Microsoft saying I don't know how many dozens of times "There are 2 billion gamers in the world and we want to reach all of them"...

Like fucking HELLO

show me a gaming service that has a monthly subscription fee that is huge on phones.

We've had smartphones for 10 years, and very powerful phones for at least the past 5 years..........something must have GROWN out of that market that's a paid money subscription to a game or gaming platform, or a MMO?

Right?

Halo on Switch is not expanding the market for MS? Phones have to prove themselves as viable markets for the stuff MS wants to put out. Right now you're just theorycrafting it all into a success. MS has theorycrafted game pass into a success, and it's not even doing that well on their GAMING CONSOLE attach ratewise. I dont want to even imagine how abysmal it can end up on phones.

MS also expected 200 million gamers to buy the XBox One. Who gives a shit what they want.

No they didn't, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what they said.

MS thought they could sell their consoles with Kinect, TV, and have no used games. It looked very promising in their board room meetings, and marketing profit graphs. Kinda like XCloud on unproven devices. It's theorycraft at best.

HEY, let's sell our hardcore traditional console games on a platform where many have tried, and nobody has been able to reliably have a sustainable and GROWING business from doing so!

And that Switch platform? That has grown faster than any gaming platform in video game history? That people who own the platform have a clear expectation to PAY MONEY to play games? That already has built-in controller interface that makes it easy to play our traditional console games?

Let's consider that a much, much lower priority for our GamePass business!!!

Anyways the point is the market is theoretical, unproven. If game pass uptake isn't exploding on their gaming console, were does this confidence in the phone market eating this up come from. Especially when you factor in the disadvantages of streaming. Be it lag, phone controls, reception, provider bandwidth limitations.

And most imporantly. The phone market might not just give a damn.

Also let's give the market to our streaming competitors! Streaming is so unproven that even google, and amazon might cut the experiment off if the loses just keep piling up. The market, profits, and what not at this point are just theoretical. Netflix turned a profit like a few years ago and was a lose leader.

Not everyone is going to do 10+ years of lose leading.

If Ori and the Blind FOrest is a game that requires quick-precision in its control..........it will NOT be a streaming game for a while. Not 2019, not 2020.

The only way Microsoft could offer it to Switch owners is in the form of a port that run on Switch hardware.

The Ubisoft Rayman games run on the Switch beautifully. They can port Ori to the Switch. They can probably port the sequel as well.

Anyways back to Switch, I expect this to have a noticable hardware sales effect in the US specifically where Switch is already dominating. The value proposition, perception change, and value proposition of "Play Halo" on the hottest system, and ON THE GO.

It's like Sonic coming to the SNES. Though I think MS might be happy with the good PR and awareness of their games.

Back on topic, the OG dude that leaked this.

Said MS will probably combine the GamePass AND XCloud fee into one. So no you're probably not seeing third party games on this thing. It's a gamepass push first and foremost.

This suggests you probably won't be able to buy and stream third party games from XCloud on Switch, since you can't flatout buy them off an XBox store. Your only game option is game pass, and some native games. Specifically Ori.

The deal seems to be pure MS and Nintendo. No third parties involved.

Someone put out an interesting idea. That the XBox hardware is necessary for the cloud blades of hardware, and that the blade might take more XBox hardware than they could ever sell. Intersting idea.

Anyways I'm going with XBox not having a disc drive now. The leak has extra merit now, makes perfect sense.
