We both make over 6 figures so we were ok..... but the hit on her salary still affected us though.

I think the way we are taught is better suited to females. Boys learn better through activity, not sitting at desks listening to adults talk. Girls are better at listening and applying that knowledge through words and dialogue.  This is why so many boys are diagnosed with adhd but really its just natural behavior. It's kind of sad how we are over medicating little boys.

Why is it the business' responsibility to float money and time off because of something which has absolutely nothing to do with their job and is by all accounts a personal matter?

Maternity leave is a very small portion of your pay + it's only a short time..... a few weeks.. depending on what state you live it could be less.
