Oh hey...........its time to talk about COVID again. Nationwide hospitalizations grow to all-time high with more than 60,000 for the first-time

Dallas County in Texas just reported their highest single one-day total of new infections, so far. And they even went out of their way to verify that the number is from completely new infections, and not including a "backlog" as has been the problem in Texas with them being late to deliver the data late in the Summer.

1,401 new cases for just one county in Texas. The entire state reported 11,200 cases, which is effectively near are all time high from during the summer.

And the hospital university in our area that creates monthly forecasts predicted the spike; in fact we're ahead of schedule under the worst-case scenario. by over a whole week.

Because we have largely abandoned most safety protocols, especially here in Texas.

These numbers and hospitalizations are not including the spikes that will be coming from Halloween, and from the inevitable spike of people standing in line on Election Day

The hospitalizations are increasing too fast in Texas:

Hospitals at 'brink' of hitting capacity

As of Tuesday, 44 states accumulated at least 10% more Covid-19 cases in the last week than the week before that, according to Johns Hopkins data.

The rising numbers have begun taking their toll on American communities.

In Texas, the hard-hit county of El Paso has six mobile morgues and has asked for four more trailers, County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said Monday. That comes as the state nears 1 million infections since the pandemic's start.

Most regions in Illinois are seeing "far higher rates" of Covid-19 hospitalizations than they did during the spring, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Tuesday.
Outside of Chicago and suburban Cook County, "much of Illinois' communities are experiencing the worst that they've seen yet" when it comes to hospitalizations for coronavirus, the governor said.

South Dakota Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon said Tuesday the state is seeing rising numbers of cases and hospitalizations.

"The numbers of cases tend to translate into numbers of hospitalizations, two to four weeks later," she said. "And if we're going to be seeing deaths from those cases, that will come later yet."

In Ohio, all parts of the state are affected by an "unprecedented spike" in hospitalized patients, said Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, the incoming chief medical officer for the state's health department.

"Every county in the state is feeling the brunt of rising Covid-19 hospitalizations," Vanderhoff said. "If we don't control the spread of the virus and our case numbers, we won't be able to continue caring for the acutely ill without postponing important, but less urgent care."

And among the issues that are concerning officials -- not just in Ohio, but across the nation -- are the strained and exhausted staff that are taking care of the surging number of patients.

"We're exhausting the available supply of trained personnel," Vanderhoff said. "They can't escape the rising numbers of Covid-19 numbers in their communities."

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert said the state's hospital capacity is shrinking and went on to declare a state of emergency and a statewide mask mandate Monday.

"They are really at the brink of not being able to take any more people ... particularly in our intensive care units," the governor said Monday, speaking on the state's shrinking hospital capacity.

And what is Texas Gov. Greg Abbott doing? He's Joe Rogan, talking about stopping the defunding of police.

Pfizer can't produce enough of their vaccine except for only the most vulnerable of people worldwide. And they probably won't be able to start delivering the vaccination to the US until the beginning of April.

The only thing we can do to "hang on" until then is by implementing and enforcing various downs, now. Which is going to be an absolute no-no because retailers are telling governors that their stores must remain open for Christmas. Gee, I wonder if we have a leader in the federal government that should be treating this like their main priority?

So what do you guys think of the fact that one of Biden's Covid advisers wants the vaccine distributed globally instead of given to as many Americans as possible first? Despite us being the main investor in all that research? Do you think thats reasonable? :wonder:

Your contextualization is stupid.  What he said is that "countries" which is plural and he is talking about the rich countries not hoard the vaccine and keep enough stock to reach herd immunity and distribute the rest.  You sound like Fox News.

Doesn't mean it'll happen. The Pfizer vaccine needs to be kept at -70C and will be difficult to even get to our own rural areas in the states. I think it needs to go to the vulnerable/elderly/front line workers first and foremost anyways and on a global scale. The rest of us just need to follow the guidelines of distancing, no social gatherings, and masks everywhere.

First of all, he's one of ten advisers. Secondly, have you read his framework for distribution?

https://science.sciencemag.org/content/369/6509/1309

The framework suggests the country that develops the vaccine use enough to reach and maintain herd immunity, then sell the excess.

It also suggests that selling the excess at the point of herd immunity is advantageous to the country that developed the vaccine because the economic impact of further vaccination below herd immunity in the home country is less than the economic impact of allowing other countries to reach herd immunity due to trade. That's trading American lives to boost the economy, so I can see the objections to that...just not from the people who supported herd immunity without a vaccine to boost the economy. :ben:

Except we're not the "main investor"

Pfizer is a German company.

Germany was the primary country who subsidized their work.

Considering what you just typed are right-wing lies...........no I don't consider your lies to be reasonable.

Pfizer is American. It's partner in the vaccine's development, BioNTech, is German. Other than that, you nailed it. Operation Warp Speed didn't contribute a dime to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, while Germany contributed $445-million. Operation Warp Speed just said they'd buy dosages if the vaccine got FDA approval.

Not saying its the reason. But it plays a role.

Numbers increasing and decreasing seem very heavily correlated to restrictions that were put in place and then people following them. Don't forget we are opposing seasons, my state's peak was practically summer. Lockdowns prior to winter and cases dropped to single digits and since then we opened up fairly normal for months now and it's been single digits or zero for my state.

For us the weather plays a role. It's much easier to socially distance outdoors when it's not -10 and snowing and we know the virus spreads much easier in indoor settings.

Oh, when did I say that we had just hit 90,000 and then 100,000 new daily cases? Was it early last week, or two full weeks ago?

Yeah, we just crossed 150,000 new confirmed cases in one day, today.

Yeah, we just crossed 150,000 new confirmed cases in one day, today.

Took about 8 days to see a >50% increase in daily cases. We crossed 100k daily on Nov. 4.
