Nintendo and their perceived "success" with the Switch

Recommended Posts

Motherfuckers had to cannibalize their Handheld market and merge it with their traditional market just to find success.  It's quite clear Switch wouldn't be anywhere close to PS4 numbers, nor even Xbox One numbers if they hadn't completely merged their two markets together.

People are literally ignoring that fact.  If the Switch was just a traditional console... it'd be at like maybe 20-25 mil or so :cruise:

After the WiiU's pathetic 14M sales it's clear... Nintendo wasn't ever competing on the traditional market ever again, so they did what they had to do and combined it with their far more successful handheld business.

Perfect formfactor for WiiU ports and indie shovelware.  The handheld market ate it up like Sheep and the old Nintendo faithful bought them for the one or two Zelda/Mario games that release per gen.

What a bullshit "success"  :rofls:

Its a fair point. They will break 100 million Switches, but remember back when they sold 100 million Wiis and 154 million DS's

So by that logic, Sony has also contracted since they used to sell about 90 million PS3s and also 80 million PSPs.

Been saying this for a while, even before Switch came out in regards to what would consider it a success given the 3DS sales figures and them merging the console market into their handheld market.

Still makes Switch a success but not really a surprise success at all considering NInty's handheld market is gigantic.

Is the PS4 a handheld?

Doesn't matter.

Contraction in hardware sales is contraction. Is it not?

What's your theory, those PSP owners dissapated into thin air to no longer play anything?

The whole argument is that Nintendo created a Console/Handheld hybrid and in doing so merged their two markets. Sony hasn't done that. They have just left the handheld market since Vita.

Of course it matters lol it's literally the only thing that matters in this case lol

No........what exactly are you saying here?

People who are playing a handheld.............that clearly has Playstation D-pad, button, shoulder buttons, and they have a PSN account............once the handheld was over, they weren't going to go over to Playstation consoles?

They were just going to fall out of gaming, altogether?  That's simply too naive.

Those gamers ended up being Playstation console gamers or, at worst, Nintendo handheld gamers. They were probably already overlapped as being both Playstation console and handheld gamers.

So that helped out future sales of Playstation consoles.

It is absolutely the same exact scenario that people are trying to downplay Switch's success.

You're adding  arbitrary parameters to say that isn't the case.

Except Switch is already breaking all sales records, and it had already been supply constrained during two separate summers.

It really is funny how you're trying to find a way to downplay it.

The resources that Sony poured into this handheld market for Vita and PSP.   When Sony left that market, where did those resources go? (1st party Developers, Budgets etc) :interesting:
