This might actually be what kills their console business :D

They need to just drop that nonsense and focus on Windows and Steam.  Have the Xbox app, build it up make it good, have Gamepass and xCloud

Fuck the console shit.  Just move that shit over to generic small form factor PCs.  Build up and then try to release their games on other consoles.

Just go full 3rd party.  They can't seem to manage this shit anymore and are just disappointing their console fans left and right.  They should have stuck with PC all along, but hey, it is what it is.  Nice try.. but it wasn't meant to be.

With a focus on PC they could have several million sellers as well as a couple big 3-5 million selling titles.. without all the negative stigma shit about their console business and them getting trampled.

I just can't see the console coming back from not having Halo at launch.  That was the only thing that was really going to drive sales.

This sounds extreme but it really wouldn't be.

Without a console launch this delay would be praised like most are. With a console launch this delay is suicide.

What is even the point of having a platform where your entire focus now is on having things available on as many platforms as possible. Just go 3rd party. Put gamepass on everything. Cut the huge costs of the hardware and focus. Would make sense.

Halo on PS5 also would sell another 5-10m copies easy.

What you're describing their would only lead to "perceived successes" and who would want that.. Amirite? :bena:

That's right.  Because much like Nintendo after the WiiU debacle, they have to change perception of the brand by focusing and rebuilding.

If their console doesn't sell this coming year.... it's over.  Cut it out and focus and merge what works.

That's just not going to happen. Let's reiterate one of the basic core mandates of the creation of Xbox from the very beginning.

Xbox LITERALLY MEANS "Microsoft in the Living Room"

Its always has been a core tenet of the business.

If they don't get to stay in the living room, then why do they need to make games?

For the PC?  Why?  How?

PC gamers are not going to pay Microsoft money to keep a friends list and play online with them. They're not going to turn a huge profit with selling video games. PC gamer do not need their networking services.

If Xbox does not have some real entryway to stay in the living room or on mobile, everything Xbox does start unraveling.

And if Microsoft is using Xbox to help prop up their Azure business............then they need xCloud users from SOMEwhere.

The should have refocused after Xbox1..  Its clear with Series X that that's not the case.

This would be akin to Nintendo fucking up with Wiiu and  then Turn around and Fuck up the launch of the Switch as well.

MS is currently fucking up the Series X and it hasn't even launched yet.   This refocusing and rebranding you're talking about isn't possible until a few years from now.

Because money was always in the games... never in the hardware.. By focusing on making games and creating a big game publishing arm, they can focus on what makes them money.. and not what costs them money.

Remember... I said if their console fails this coming year....

And yes.. .for the PC.  lmao... how do you think any of the major 3rd party publishers have successful businesses???

If you've not noticed... their services are changing.. they are building up services which allow them to make money from 3rd party games released on PC.  It's not about "friends lists and online playing" anymore... it's about getting people to subscribe for games.  It was about making their services something BIGGER than what their console base alone would support.  Nobody ouside of the console was ever going to pay for the ability to simply play online and connect with friends... nope.  That's part and parcel now to the real service, which is offering people games for a cheap monthly price... and that ability allows them to make money from PC gamers and mobile gamers as well.

The living room is a tiny fraction of the overall market... and guess what.. MS' portion of THAT portion was even smaller...

If the Series X/S flops... then they continue to push xCloud and PC game... much like I told you they'd end up doing LONG AGO.

Yea, it's honestly like if Switch would have launched without BOTW and had nothing.  We could have been looking at a very different Nintendo today had that been the case..  But BOTW bought them enough time as well as the console appealing to more people like handheld gamers.

I agree they're fucking it up hard now, and I agree a refocus would take time.  We'll know within 2 years if their console business is done or not.  If they do WiiU numbers... MS is done and they pull out.  They were almost ready too after the XO, but with xCloud and opportunity in the PC space, they could continue to create games and then eventually go 3rd party on Nintendo and Playstation.

They are NOT going to make a huge profit being a PC-only gaming software developer.

Dude..................do you understand that you're typing that OUT LOUD in the year 2020 "PC only gaming developer, they're gonna turn a huge profit"

Are you serious?

No one gives a shit about their "services".........no one cares that they are "building" their services.........nobody is ASKING for it, and nobody is GOING TO PAY MONEY for it on the PC.

PC gamers are not going to SUBSCRIBE to games............what are you talking about?

If they want a Fortnite???????????? Guess what Fortnite does? They go fully multiplatform.

Microsoft will not be a full-time PC developer for the Xbox business.  That's a pipe dream.

lmao why are you acting like I'm saying they shouldn't release console games?  When I say focusing on PC... I mean putting effort into making it their main platform.  They have PC and they have xCloud.  If their console business dies... then focus on PC as a platform holder... because you know.. they ARE the platform holder... and make as much money as you can there..

I said they should have stuck with PC all along, because if they had... they could have been Steam right now.....

And sorry to burst your bubble... but PC gamers ARE subscribing to games... lmao.  PC is a major driver for Gamepass...

The Majority of Switch owners play the system docked.  Handheld only gamers really didn't start adopting Switch until the light came out...... but Switch was already a runaway success by that point.

But yes, a great launch goes a loooooooong way in setting the tone for the entire gen.

before they even had a chance to take pre-orders, goddamn Xbox division has got to be the worse-run organization out of all the hardware makers.

I hate to be the guy who has to report this to head Microsoft guy Salty Nutella or whatever his name is.

you know damn well that you would be praising nintendo had they given their next gen customers a heads up about a launch game being pushed back before console pre order is available.  Nintendo and Sony are underhanded and they would probably take advantage and withhold that information until they can scoop up enough pre orders.  MS isn't greedy and want their customers to be happy so they treat people fairly.  They will win the console war with good wholesome honesty and amazing services / hardware.

I really don't mind this delay to 2021 tbh it gives them time to polish the game further.  Also keeps a few extra developers and testers etc employed due to extra time needed which is good due low employment on account of covid.. I'm not in any huge rush and can wait a few months for perfection.
