Cocaine Mitch warned you guys not to change the rules in '13. He warned you that you'd regret it. You have no one to blame but yourselves.

Cool, so we get to eliminate the filibuster entirely and pack the courts beginning next year.

Thanks for clarifying Mitch's permission on this.

The claim's already been retracted.

"Correction: This article’s headline originally stated that People of Praise inspired ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’. The book’s author, Margaret Atwood, has never specifically mentioned the group as being the inspiration for her work. A New Yorker profile of the author from 2017 mentions a newspaper clipping as part of her research for the book of a different charismatic Catholic group, People of Hope. Newsweek regrets the error."

The press is doing a bang-up job as usual.

So, instead of it being a spoken fact by the author............its an observable fact from looking at the author's own research.

Therefore, its still something that remains a fact and true.

But the USA is turning into a warped Christian theocracy by people who have no real clue what Jesus actually preached.

Well that's a relief.

You actually think the US is becoming less progressive overall?

We literally have a racist president running on a platform of going backwards. Then we have people who think they are liberal or progressive spreading watered down fascism and or intolerance.

It's a perspective thing. Different battle, same war.

1 = 60 million votes.

I think we over estimated how progressive we were as a whole. To be fair saying as a whole is honestly vague. More progressive than the 60s, or 20's, or 1800s, or 1600s. My biggest issue lately is people talking about MLK, most importantly republican white people talking about MLK in adoration...when in reality those same people during his time would have been vilifying him. Trump talks about "patriotic curriculums" that teach the real history of America...as if American history has been sanitized enough as it is. If MLK was alive today, and saying the same shit he said in the 60's they would be calling him a socialist communist trouble maker. Fuck am I saying, homeboy was fucking assassinated for his beliefs.

I think society is more tolerant and watered down or trickle down intolerance. As much offense you took to the Nazi/Trump video, it's honestly what I and many feel about the MAGA movement. Hitler and the Nazi's really only had about 30% support....sound familiar? But with split parties was able to seize power and expand. Like whatever that Republican said back in the 70s. You cant just walk out in to a crowd and complain about "*****rs", you have to use passive words that makes people think of a certain group of people and our current President isnt even using 21 century dog whistles. When he says "suburban women" he means white women. When he says "low income" he means black people. Hell even if he didn't, how the fuck does a Presidential candidate run on a platform of "I'm keeping poor people from getting a chance to better their situation. You're welcome, people with money" ?

Politically yes, we’re regressing and being ruled by a minority party.

its the single most powerful position in the land who single-handedly controls one entire branch of the American government.

Why do you pretend to act naive in these types of instances?

You're better pleading completely ignorance and telling us that you simply don't know jack shit about America.

But that's not what you're doing, now is it? You're purposely pretending to be naive.

It is, going by the data.

And on major issues that people are talking about in regards to SCOTUS it clearly isn't right leaning.

Record 71% of Voters Oppose Overturning Roe v. Wade

https://www.wsj.com/articles/record-71-of-voters-oppose-overturning-roe-v-wade-1532379600

This is what bothers me so much about a stacked conservative court. Will of the people means nothing, and no term limits so it's all a lottery decided on which justice dies or leaves randomly.

The courts are not supposed to follow the will of the people. That's the whole point. They are supposed to be non partisan and interpret the law in an unbiased manner. It should be judges that elect other judges for the Supreme Court.

No, historically major Supreme Court Justice decisions have BEEN major progressive milestones.

And the Supreme Court Justices rule based on their time. They don't take late 1700's laws and apply late 1700's standards to them.

They take old laws and they make sound judgements of the world of today.

So, what the world is today, and the people that make up America........DOES affect how courts make judgements. Judges recognize the INTENT of a law, as it was originally written, and try to apply it to today's world.

I never said they are. I was replying to:

The thing is they are partisan though, and they do interpret it in biased manners. That's why conservatives pick conservative judges and vice versa.

I just think it would be pathetic when a court leans heavily towards the right when the country is headed in a different direction. Especially on topics like that. Several judges clearly are partisan at times, making clearly right wing decisions which is why they are nominated by right wing politicians. To carry out such decisions.

God I hope she isn't full conservative retard when it comes to climate change at least.  Going to be way more important than abortion in the upcomming decades.

Your cult has a bad track record on that topic.

Its great that Mitch McConnell is giving permission and making it public for when Democrats eliminate the filibuster across the board entirely next year

Dude your cult is blocking Gen 3 & 4 nuke reactors in favor of giant bird-murder fans. Meanwhile here in the Bay Area where your cult has a stranglehold on power, the temp is about to hit 100 today and they're warning us that that theyre going to do rolling blackouts yet again. I'll take my chances with the Catholics on this one.

I'm not on the far left and agree with you on some of that. Like many sane people who agree with AGW science, I prefer Nuclear. Those against it are not against it due to AGW.  Wind mills are fine, bird meme is stupid. I'm center left and moderate. So that strikes out most of your post. But those things you listed do not counter what I stated.

Cherry picking aside, the left has been far better on climate change so far and actually accepting the facts and science on it.

Quote

"I'll take my chances with the Catholics on this one."

That's a large mistake when looking at all peer reviewed studies on AGW.

Like I said, I hope she doesn't go full psycho conservative on climate change these coming decades. Your cult has been very wrong about climate change as you know.  At nearly every turn, to down right still thinking it's fake. That would kill more people than Trump's Covid mistakes. A conservative stacked court can possibly set us back in the AGW fight, and it will be catastrophic.  Many can die.

P.S.

Quote

A 2009 study using US and European data on bird deaths estimated the number of birds killed per unit of power generated by wind, fossil fuel and nuclear power systems.

It concluded, "Wind farms and nuclear power stations are responsible each for between 0.3 and 0.4 fatalities per gigawatt-hour (GWh) of electricity while fossil-fuelled power stations are responsible for about 5.2 fatalities per GWh."

That's nearly 15 times more. From this, the author estimated that wind farms killed approximately seven thousand birds in the United States in 2006 but nuclear plants killed about 327,000 and fossil-fuelled power plants 14.5 million.

In other words, for every one bird killed by a wind turbine, nuclear and fossil fuel powered plants killed 2,118 birds.

Less Trump memes please.

resorting to stupid ideas that he knows are not feasible.

cost and lack of technology advancements do not make nuclear reactors, or alternative nuclear reactors feasible. Any plan is 20 years away, and therefore a bullshit plan being peddled by people who simply want to find a way to say that the liberals are doing it wrong.

I love how you are concern trolling on this. Shows how petty you really are, you would support the religious right gaining a foothold of power in this nation because you hate "da libs" that much. And the religious right isn't going to solve your climate problem, you already know that.
