The Official "What Are You Playing?" Thread (Post Screens)

Recommended Posts

I finished Katana Zero. Have to admit I wasn’t the biggest fan of the game. When everything clicked the gameplay was great but at the same time I feel like there was a lot of trial and error and it was dragged down by some annoying moments (like being shot from off screen, the lock on for throwable items being inconsistent, etc). The story also felt like it was trying too hard in a way that made it come off as pretentious (though there were some cool moments).

All in all, it was ok but not among my favorites as far as this type of game is concerned.

I won't be playing anything for months or close to a year probably, stuck in bumfuck nowhere Montenegro in the middle of endless mountains, imagine Rocky IV's training location without the snow (yet)

The amount of shit going on in Control during fights is next level compared to anything else ive seen.   I also started playing Witcher 3 again. Damn this game is fucking awesome. It still l

I think I'm nearing the end of my patience with AC7. On Chapter 13 but the mission failures are just too punishing in this day and age. I don't want to replay 20 min of game again

Played more Fast RMX. Okay this game is awesome and a very worthy spiritual successor to F-Zero and Wipeout. It actually adds a really cool Ikaruga-esque mechanic where your ship has an Orange or Blue mode and tracks boost strips are either Blue and Orange so you have to continually switch modes to activate them. Adds a nice little element on top of the regular futuristic racing. Still just 'Cups' at this point though. I miss F-Zero GX's campaign :(

Are you making sure to roll, pitch, and yaw as much as possible when there are missiles coming your way? You can dodge most of them by just going crazy with the sticks.

Also, make sure you're picking the right plane/weapon loadout for the mission. IIRC I got through most of the game using multirole fighters, I feel like they worked great against most ground/air targets. The bombers are useless most of the time and the fighters are nimble and can turn on a dime but they go down pretty quickly. As for sub weapons I found the laser guided missiles that can lock on from farther away to be the most useful.

Picking the right plane and loadout is one of my probs with it tbh, cause I don't really give a shit about planes lol. Sort of wish the campaign just gave you the plane and loadout you need for that mission. Mission 13 you need to stay still cause you are destroying some missile silos and the weapon needs to be tracked all the way from lock till hit and if you move it misses/fails, so i'm getting destroyed.

Most of the F and SU series multirole (purple icon) fighters are good so if you haven't done so already try to work your way to those in the aircraft tree. I looked up that mission and I do remember it being kind of pain. I think you just have to try and slow down as much as possible and approach at the right angle (by keeping close enough to the ground). It might also be worth doing a pass along the area and getting rid of any AA/SAM sites first.

Yeah that's what I need to do but I'm being too impatient. Mostly because the gameplay can be a little repetitive I feel.

The story that they've put into an Ace Combat game though is really cool

From a mission design perspective I think 7 is actually the most varied in the series. They do some interesting things with the objectives that they haven't done before.

But I do get your point as the core 'combat' is pretty straightforward. i've always enjoyed the simple satisfaction of locking onto targets and watching missiles blow them to pieces. I also have a thing for jets and aerial combat in general so that helps

I beat RE3 clocking in at 1 hour and 5 minutes using the infinite rocket launcher. The game is way too small, they cut too much content from the original. Shame because it could have been fantastic, as it stands though it's just a decent RE game. I prefer the original RE2 and RE3 over their remakes, personally.

Alright... I started KH2 and played it for a little over an hour.

How long is this Roxas part?

Because this shit is boring.

If we're talking a Zelda TP situation then fuck it- I tried but I'm done.

Like 5 hours or a bit less I think? That part sucks but the rest is godly

So I managed to get through that mission and the next couple. Up to Mission 16 now. Ended my session with massive rage again though. I'm at the mission where you have to escort a vehicle down the highway while scanning everyone to see if they are ally or enemy. Fucking failed right at the end of the 20 min mission and have to replay it. UGH.

Damn that sucks, they really need to add more checkpoints for the next game. If it helps you're near the end though so you won't have to rage for much longer lol.

Idk wtf they were thinking with that part. I almost quit but I was glad I didn’t

I enjoyed that segment. I think they did a great job fleshing out Roxas and his friends and then tieing it in with the overarching story, which is surprising because the rest of the storytelling in that game was a clusterfuck.

Checkpoints alone would probably fix nearly all my complaints lol It sticks out so badly in this day and age too and it's like like retrying a boss fight over and over because missions like this start off so slow and that having to restart them is seriously a pain. I can do the first 10min with my eyes closed and you need to keep replaying those less exciting parts.

I've complained a lot but I'll talk about some positives now. The mission settings and objectives for some of these missions are really unqiue and cool. Infiltrating through a canyon at low altitude is cool af and this city in the midst of a cival war is a gorgeous back drop to a flight combat game.

The game is just cool and does make you feel like a bad ass fighter pilot. All the aerial and ground battles happening around you, the constant radio chatter from friendlies and enemies alike, the intensity of the soundtrack, and even the moments of sometimes eerie silence that come up between objectives all add to the atmosphere.

There’s 2 types of fans: those who care about the story, and those who don’t.

you fall in the former. I care a bit but for the most part, I just enjoy the gameplay, the characters and Disney worlds. The stories in each world are entertaining and fun to watch the Disney and ff characters interact, but the overall narrative with org xiii I didn’t know or care what was going on. Seeing something like roxas with his friends was boring to me. Playing with sora in the tron world or the steamboat willie worlds, now that’s fun.

I already know what the deal is with Roxas and Namine though. So all I'm left with is doing tedious tasks and a snail like pace to get to the next story beat.

5 hours of this is brutal once the mystery is gone...

Alright, so I gave the game an hour time limit and realized I don't actually need to watch the cutscenes since I already know what's going on. I barely got through this part within the time limit but it is now over and done with.

Took about 3 hours, if I was skipping cutscenes from the beginning then this part probably would've took about 2 hours. Its still a boring slog but at least it wasn't 5 hours... But whatever, its done with. That's all I care about.
