xbox is dying/dead, so it doesnt matter for that platform. you cant even buy physical versions of halo, forza or starfield. its future is game pass box/streaming app.

 

on healthy platforms like playstation and nintendo, physical isnt going anwyhere.

There's still a lot of people who buy physical and "fight the good fight" but that's because they aren't currently being forced to.  If the industry decides to put physical out of it's misery, then the vast majority of those people who still buy physical, will bite the bullet and buy it digitally.  The only people who would really cry about it are the small vocal group of physical preservationists.

 

The industry would roll over to all digital and it would be the easiest thing ever.. it's already entirely set up to do so.

The broadband infustructure isn't mature enough as yet for a 100% digital gaming. 

 

Sony and Nintendo who both perform well Globally aren't dropping physical anytime soon. 

 

Force a user to go digital? That user is going to run fiber lines for their entire region or something? Lmfao.

I buy everything digital nowadays but they need to give people the option. A lot of gamers still prefer physical and they will alienate gamers who prefer physical. The last thing ShitBox needs to be doing now is alienating gamers, they need all the gamers they can get seeing as the console aren’t selling for shit and the brand is a flop.

Yup that's the best option.  Whoever wants to go all digital, you can do that.. Nothing is stopping you.

There's a huge fucking difference between buying all/most of your games digitally in a context where there are still retail discs vs first parties having a total monopoly on distribution/pricing.

 

As it is, Valve built a great reputation for fair pricing. Sony is quite a bit worse. MS a bit worse still. Nintendo fucking terrible. Digital only on consoles will be bad for players, and will certainly lead to higher prices on average.

 

It's funny how even as Xbox circles the drain, MS stays at the forefront of anti-consumer policies.

Tell that to the millions of gamers they will be leaving behind in developing markets if they go digital only. Unlike Xbox whose primary market is NA and UK, Sony is a worldwide brand and some of the regions they sell in will still have dogshit internet infrastructure and need for discs. The console itself may not have a disc drive built in but I’m betting there will be an option for external discs at the very least. No way they leave that money on the table.

Developers and publishers wouldn't bother if Sony is the only one making games on physical media for an add on device. It would be niche as fuck. The entire world has Internet now, and most games require internet to even play single player.
